Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance is a forward thinking, contemporary and

We are offering an excellent training opportunity for a graduate interested in starting a
career in arts administration and project management.
You will provide day-to-day administrative support to the Learning & Participation (Music)
team primarily in the area of participatory arts projects for children, young people and
members of the community and related training.
You will gain experience and learn about arts administration in a public engagement,
educational and artistic environment.
Knowledge of music and interest in the arts is essential. You should have excellent
organisational skills, a willingness to learn, the ability to work as part of a team, and be able
to demonstrate initiative.
Flexible working will be required with regular evening and some weekend work and a DBS
check.
Salary: £10,379.95 for the contract

PURPOSE OF THE POST
The Graduate Intern will assist Learning & Participation (Music) staff in the delivery of a
range of music projects and activities for children, young people and adults. The intern will
be involved in planning, organisation, day to day administration, monitoring and evaluation
of projects and programmes.
The Graduate Intern will report to one of the department’s Projects Manager but will also
have opportunities to work alongside other members of the department, including the other
Projects Managers, Learning and Participation Manager (Music) and Head of Learning and
Participation (Music).
During the internship, there will be an opportunity to gain experience and train in a variety
of areas, including






Music/arts administration; the planning, delivery and evaluation of a range of
projects and activities
Administration of courses, booking systems and customer care
Observing a wide range of workshop and creative music education situations
Experience of diverse project models, including outreach work in schools, out of
school learning by young people and specialist projects with older people
Performance and event production
Programming, fundraising, monitoring and evaluation
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

Assisting in the pre-planning and delivery of Learning and Participation music
projects, performances, events, workshops and programmes.

Assisting Projects Managers with general computer based administrative tasks
including data entry, letter writing and maintaining databases.

Supporting the administration of Animate Orchestra by taking enquiries, collecting
and processing bookings, checking and maintaining registers, contacting
participants as needed, monitoring and gathering feedback.

Practical planning, staffing and support of activities e.g. booking venues and staff,
moving instruments and equipment, compiling plans and schedules, arranging
meetings, taking registers, answering questions, organising refreshments.

Acting as a point of contact for enquiries from members of the public, schools,
professional musicians, organisations and other Trinity Laban staff.

Administering financial systems in liaison with the Finance Department as required.

Assisting in the monitoring and evaluation of activities.

Attending/observing workshops, courses, performances and meetings in order to
feedback and inform future planning.

Attending department meetings to participate in decision making and forward
strategy.

Proof reading and giving feedback on marketing materials, reports and funding bids.

To carry out any other duties which might reasonably be requested by the Projects
Manager.

CONDITIONS OF SERVICE – SUMMARY AND STAFF BENEFITS
Contract:
Full-time for 11 months (47 weeks), subject to three-month
probationary period.
Hours:
Thirty-five hours per week, usually 9.00 to 17.00, Monday to Friday
with a daily lunch break of one hour. Flexible working will be
required with regular evening and some weekend work.
Location:
You will be based at the Faculty of Music in Greenwich (King Charles
Court, Old Royal Naval College) but may also be required to work at
the Faculty of Dance in Deptford (Laban Building, Creekside).
Salary:
£10,379.95 for duration of contract
Annual Leave:
18 days, in addition to Statutory, Bank and Public Holidays.
Sick Pay:
Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance operates the
Statutory Sick Pay Scheme.

THE DEPARTMENT
Learning and Participation (Music) is a department in the Music Faculty. We work closely
with our colleagues in Learning and Participation (Dance), Junior Trinity and Blackheath
Halls. Our key drivers are

 To provide real world experience in professional musical leadership to Trinity Laban
students
The Learning & Participation (Music) Team
We currently employ three full time Projects Manager who oversee the delivery of our
widening participation and community projects. The Graduate Intern role to underpin the
administration and management of our projects. The department is led by the Head of
Learning and Participation, Music (0.6 FTE) and Learning & Participation Manager, Music
(0.6 FTE).
Priorities for 2013 - 14
During 2013 -14, the department’s work will be focussed on the following five areas of
work:
REACH (access)
Inspirational learning and participation opportunities that emphasise performance
e.g. student & staff led workshop performances in schools; outreach activities linked
to our festivals and performance programme
TRANSFORM (progression)
Progression pathways for children and young people, beyond first access and
towards advanced training through the Music and Dance Scheme1, HE training or
professional employment. E.g. Animate Orchestra2; Gifted & Talented programmes;
partnership projects with music hubs. The Graduate Intern role will have a particular
focus on supporting the administrative needs of this strand of our work.
MODEL
Focussed and innovative projects to understand how, why and when sustained
participation in music leads to transformational outcomes e.g. Retired not Tired3
DEVELOP
Accredited and non accredited courses, networking opportunities, work experience
and job openings providing lifelong learning for creative practitioners.
SHARE
Dissemination of learning from across our activities through structured engagement
with funders, partners and the wider sector
The Graduate Intern role will have a particular focus on supporting the administrative needs
of the TRANSFORM and DEVELOP priority areas of our work.

INFORMATION ON TRINITY LABAN CONSERVATOIRE OF MUSIC AND DANCE
Trinity Laban is a small specialist Higher Education Institution (HEI), training
musicians and dance artists intending to make careers as practitioners.
Engagement with the wider world of our artforms is central to Trinity Laban’s ethos.
Public engagement is embedded across the institution, allowing us to share our
resources, engage with our wider community and evolve in response to the
changing world around us.
Each year, Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance (Trinity Laban) delivers
over 5,000 sessions of music and dance activity for children and young people, with
around 8,000 participants. A further 2,000 people of all ages sing, play, dance,
perform, create and share their enjoyment of music and dance through our wider
cultural programming. 100s of artists, teachers and community/youth workers
benefit from professional development support and we work strategically with a
wide range of partners, including local authorities, government agencies, arts
organisations, schools and community groups, to increase access to excellent
music and dance.
Through our Learning & Participation programmes in Music and Dance we inspire
young people, provide training for large numbers of pre-HE and adult learners and
support the development of the wider workforce, through partnerships and CPD
programmes. We create performances and engage audiences. Activities are
professionally led by Trinity Laban staff and visiting artists. Many involve HE
students as volunteers, performers or on placement as part of their course.

contemporary dance artists, attracting students from around the globe.
