Description of Service
The Early Intervention in Psychosis Service within Mersey Care NHS Trust has been
developed to provide a seamless service throughout the trust. The service is aimed
at working with people aged 16-35 who are experiencing their first episode of
psychosis or showing signs or symptoms of developing an episode of psychosis.
Our aim is to support young people and their families through what might be a
difficult and frightening experience. We aim to get people back to what they want to
do. Getting help early gives people the best chance of getting better faster. This will
reduce stress and support recovery.
The service is split up into three teams across the Trust based in North and South
Sefton, North/Central Liverpool, and South Central Liverpool. Referrals depend on
which G.P Practice service users come under as to which team they are referred to.
Setting Where Work Carried Out

The trainee will provide medical input for inpatients at Broadoak

These assessments may be carried out within the community or in an
outpatient setting.
Follow up appointments are frequently conducted in the patient’s home jointly
with practitioners.
The trainee will also have the opportunity to assess liaison referrals
under Consultant supervision.
The trainee will undertake clinical assessment of adult and older age patients
