How Much Time Should I Spend on this Class Each Week?
… the Carnegie Credit Hour, [is] the standard commonly used by the Federal
Government. An hour of credit is awarded for lecture/seminar course meeting 50minutes each week during a 14-15 week semester and requiring two hours of
outside preparation each week by the student.
accessed 7/13/15]
In other words, a 1 credit course assumes a single class period of 50 minutes and
two hours of outside preparation by the student. Since this is a 3 credit course, it
assumes three 50-minute class periods and six hours of preparation.
Since an online class does not meet in person, the assumption is that the student
will spend at least 9 hours a week in class preparation (reading the text, watching
the PowerPoints, reading the assigned Biblical texts and completing the weekly quiz.)
