Ashlee Auchter 4-5yr olds Assistants: Tamara Sprague, Melissa Fleetwood Theme: Water, Sealife, Beach Summer Week 7: July 9- July 13 Monday: July 2 Book: “Water” By: Frank Asch Early Literacy: Today’s story is about the different forms that water can take. It discusses rain, dew, ice, snow...etc. The main focus is how important it is to have water on the Earth, without it we could not survive. The story makes statements “Water is….” The children are going to reflect on the story and tell us a form that we may find water such as in the clouds, in a pool, the ocean, a puddle.. etc. Today our extension activity will be taking a walk around the school and surrounding areas in the buggy’s to locate and identify water sources such as a hose, fire hydrant, water pump, well system.. etc. Small Group Circle Time: Ocean Scene. Today we will work together to paint a large piece of paper blue to look like the ocean waves, we will use sponges, assorted brushes and our hands to create a unique pattern. We will continue this activity throughout the week and create a complete beach scene. ASHLEE HWT: We are still completing 2 letters a week from the HWT curriculum. We will begin with letter “C”. Each child will receive a trace sheet they will complete and identify the letter and a word or item that begins with letter “C”. Once we’ve completed our trace sheet we will trace the letter on our Leap Pad scribble and write. “Start at the top in the middle, big curve to the bottom, stop.” Ashlee Auchter 4-5yr olds Assistants: Tamara Sprague, Melissa Fleetwood Theme: Water, Sealife, Beach Summer Week 7: July 9- July 13 Tuesday: July 10 Book: “Waterplay” By: Early Literacy: Water. Water is an important resource we use everyday. We can use water in many different ways and our story today outlines what water is used for, i.e (bathing, drinking, washing hands, splashing, swimming..etc) We will discuss the ways we use water and ways we can be responsible and save water when we are not using it to ensure we have clean water whenever we need it. Small Group Circle Time: Ocean Scene. Today we will work together to paint a large piece of paper tan/yellow to look like the sand on the beach, we will use sponges, assorted brushes and our hands to create a unique pattern. We will also add real sand to create the texture we would feel if we walked along the shore. We will continue this activity throughout the week and create a complete beach scene. ASHLEE HWT: Today we will complete letter “C” by reading “My Little “C” Book” By: Jane Belk Moncure. We will work together as a team and create a list of the different items or words that begin with letter “C”, and then the children will need to identify the letter sound and choose an item from our book or the list we made to draw and tell a short story about. “Start at the top in the middle, big curve to the bottom, stop.” Ashlee Auchter 4-5yr olds Assistants: Tamara Sprague, Melissa Fleetwood Theme: Water, Sealife, Beach Summer Week 7: July 9- July 13 Wednesday: July 11 Early Literacy: Pool Rules and Safety. Today we will be discussing some of the rules we will need to follow before we head to the pool for our field trip this morning. I will provide laminated visuals outlining these guidelines for the children to see, read and elaborate on. We also need to check that we are prepared to be in the sun, this means we need to make sure we have sunscreen all over to protect us from the suns harmful rays. We will have no other small group times due to our field trip. We will be eating snack here at school before leaving for the pool. FIELD TRIP TO FEE AVENUE POOL 10:30-12:30 Ashlee Auchter 4-5yr olds Assistants: Tamara Sprague, Melissa Fleetwood Theme: Water, Sealife, Beach Summer Week 7: July 9- July 13 Thursday: July 12 Book: “Ocean Friends” By: Readers Digest Kids Early Literacy: Ocean Animals and Plants Today we will read a story about the ocean and the creatures that call it home. We will identify animals, plants and other items such as shells, rocks and coral that we can find in the ocean. The ocean is full of life and the creatures that live in the ocean can be very colorful. Some animals have different textures, rough, smooth, bumpy, grooved. We will discuss the word texture and ensure the students understand that word is a way to describe how something feels. Small Group Circle Time: Our extension activity will be creating shells, starfish and seaweed to add to the ocean scene we are creating. Each child will be given a pre-cut item, and then we will add colored sand to the items that should be rough. The seaweed will be made using tissue paper, and glue. To make is smooth and strong just like the sea kelp we find in the ocean. ASHLEE HWT: ** PLEASE NOTE: WE WERE UNABLE TO COMPLETE ALL HANDWRITING GROUPS ON TUESDAY SO WE WILL BE REPEATING TUESDAYS PLANS FOR THE GROUPS WHO DID NOT COMPLETE IT. THE STUDENTS WHO HAVE COMPLETED THIS PLAN WILL BE DOING A SHORT REVIEW OF THE LETTER AND WRITING IT ON THE WHITE BOARD FOR EXTRA PRACTICE. Today we will complete letter “C” by reading “My Little “C” Book” By: Jane Belk Moncure. We will work together as a team and create a list of the different items or words that begin with letter “C”, and then the children will need to identify the letter sound and choose an item from our book or the list we made to draw and tell a short story about. “Start at the top in the middle, big curve to the bottom, stop.” Ashlee Auchter 4-5yr olds Assistants: Tamara Sprague, Melissa Fleetwood Theme: Water, Sealife, Beach Summer Week 7: July 9- July 13 Friday: July 13 Cooking: Starfish Toast We will create a starfish toast using white bread slices, toasting them in the toaster, using a star shaped cookie cutter, and then we will add some butter and cinnamon sugar for texture.
