WAlls students will learn and are destined for success!
Dear Walls Parents and Students,
Thank you to everyone who donated blood at our blood drive. Our next
scheduled blood drive date is May 6th, please mark your calendars now. We have
many things coming up over the next few weeks; please take a moment to note the
dates on our calendar notes below. We also have information on the Walls link on
the Kent City Schools web page. (www.kentschools.net)
The images coming from Haiti have been overwhelming. Our student council has
decided to make a difference and reach out to those in need in Haiti. This year we
are collecting coins to benefit the Haitian earthquake victims. All money collected
will be donated through the Red Cross.
Again, thank you to every student, parent, volunteer and staff member for making
Walls Elementary a wonderful place of learning and compassion.

Character Trait of the Month – TRUSTWORTHINESS
The character trait for February is “TRUSTWORTHINESS”. Students should be worthy of the
confidence of others, be truthful, honest, and trustworthy in their relationships with others, acquire
sound values and thereafter seek to live up to them in a consistent manner, model moral courage
through truthful behavior, and be depended upon to do what’s right.
Related words include: honesty, integrity, sincere, dependable, and truthful. Practical applications
of tolerance are exhibited when a student:

Never steals someone else’s possessions or ideas (cheating).

Is consistently truthful to earn trust.

Helps others maintain honest standards.

Gives criticism only when it is constructive.

Follows the strength of convictions in spite of what peers are doing.

Has unselfish motives.

Gives praise only when it is sincere.

Tells the truth regardless of the consequences.

COSI on Wheels
Walls PTO needs your help! We’re bringing COSI, the Center of Science and Industry, to Walls
School on Friday, March 5th. This year we are featuring, “It’s Simply Chemistry”, an all-day program
complete with an assembly and 9 hands-on stations where our children can learn more about a range
of chemistry topics, and will even get to make their own slime!
We will need lots of help to make this happen, and no experience/knowledge of chemistry is required!
If you are unable to come in, please sign up to send in food or beverages for our volunteers. Call
Sheila Francis at 330-673-8829, or Maria McCarty at 330-676-0223, for information or to sign up!

HOW FULL IS YOUR BUCKET?
Walls fourth graders are presenting skits for a lesson called, How Full Is Your Bucket?
The children have learned about this National Program with books and ideas
presented by our counselor. The Bucket Fillers, Inc. explains the program this way,
“When our buckets are full we are happy; when they are empty, we are sad. Bucket
fillers are those who help without being asked, give hugs, and use kind words. It is a
program to address bullying.”
The message for the “Bucket” lesson is to create skits that represent our character
words: compassion, kindness, honesty, work ethic/responsibility, respect for self and
others, cooperation, respect for community/environment, commitment/dedication, selfcontrol, tolerance and trustworthiness. The skits are designed to reinforce habits of
treating others with respect and dignity. Every class will see the skits presented by our
fourth graders. We all look forward to being bucket fillers at Walls.
