Indiana Regional Medical Center Classes
The Indiana Regional Medical Center and Family Programs will be sponsoring the following classes.

*July through September, 2010 (no classes in June) –Parent-Infant Massage The 1 st and 3 rd
Friday of every month. This is a class for Moms, Dads, Babies and Toddlers. Parents will learn the art of Infant Message and will be guided through instruction on how to message their own babies. The fee is buy 5 classes for $20 and get one free. The workshop will be held in the
IRMC Outpatient Building Classrooms A&B from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM.
4-H Day Camps
The Indiana County 4-H program is sponsoring three day camps this summer. This year’s camp theme is
“Meet The Plants”.
The camp program will focus on plant science and the importance of plants in our lives. Campers will do such things as conduct plant science experiments, taste various plant products,
make crafts, eat snacks, meet new friends, and most importantly have fun! Campers should be ages 7 to
12.
The camps will be held at three separate locations in Indiana County:
Blairsville – July 27 - 29 at the United Presbyterian Church
Penn Run/Clymer area – August 10 - 12, New Horizons Retreat Center.
The cost is $30 per camper, and youth 13 and older are encouraged to apply for counselor positions.
Some scholarship money is available. Campers also receive a free t-shirt. If you have questions or would like to receive a brochure, contact Penn State Cooperative Extension at (724) 465-3880.
IUP New Choices Career Development Services Presentation
IUP New Choices Career Development Services will be at the Indiana Free Library hosting a FREE presentation introducing the community to the mission of the New Choices program and how it can assist individuals in achieving economic self-sufficiency through a FREE workshop exploring career and training opportunities and the tools necessary to help individuals make career, educational, and personal changes successfully.

Bake Sale
The Zero to Three Action Team is holding a bake sale at the Indiana Mall on Saturday, July 31, 2010 from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The bake sale is being held as a kick-off for World Breastfeeding Week – August 1-7 each year – and will help the 0-3 team to raise money for projects and also raise awareness for breastfeeding. The Zero to Three Action Team is a work group of Indiana County Community Engagement for Early Childhood Education, the local Community Engagement Group (CEG) . The activities of the CEG are overseen by the Children's Advisory Commission of Indiana County.
The Team also has the mall showcase for the two weeks prior to World Breastfeeding Week. We will have a display about the theme for this year which is “Simple Steps to Breastfeeding Success”.
The Baby Feeding Station** will be up for the two weeks as well , and we have some new materials for mom, dads, grandparents and health-care professionals on choosing and supporting breastfeeding.
Please stop by, take a look at the display and the Baby Feeding Station between July 16 and 31. ** The
Baby Feeding Station is a 10x10 tent which offers a relaxing, semi- private spot where moms can nurse/feed their babies. The tent is made possible by a collaboration between Indiana County Community
Engagement, The Children's Advisory Commission of Indiana county, and Indiana Regional Medical Center.

Human Services Council Picnic!
The Community Education and Fellowship committee of the Indiana County Human Services Council will be sponsoring a picnic to be held on August 12 from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM at the Eagle’s Nest picnic pavilion at the White Township Recreational Complex. It is a free event including lunch and door prizes.
Agencies are urged to send new staff for purposes of networking. There will be an interactive/networking game with prizes. The Committee is in need of Door Prizes….if your agency can contribute prizes, please drop them off to Patty Drew at Beacon Ridge. No reservations necessary and we are planning for 50 to 60 attendees.

Dr. William Lear, OB-GYN will discuss menopause, hormone replacement therapy, bladder control issues, and cancer concerns. HOPE (Highmark Osteoporosis Prevention Education) -This 4-week program focuses on healthy choices to prevent or manage osteoporosis. Program components include an overview of osteoporosis, nutrition education, cooking demonstration, strength training exercises, medication options and stress management. Class begins on August 16, 2010 at 6 pm. Cost is $100/Free to Highmark Insurance Subscribers.
Eat Well for Life – 4/week lifestyle improvement program promoting wellness and long-term weight management through balanced nutrition. Class begins August 5, 2010 at 6 pm. Cost is
$65/Free to Highmark Insurance Subscribers.

The Early Childhood Community Engagement GrantUPDATE
The Indiana County Department of Human Services has received funding through the Office of Child
Development and Early Learning (Pennsylvania Departments of Education and Public Welfare) to continue the Community Engagement for Early Childhood Education grant activities during State Fiscal Year
2010-2011. The county has been charged to improve working relations and coordination among those interested in early childhood education. As it has for the last few years, the Early Care and Education
Committee of the Children’s Advisory Commission of Indiana County will oversee the deliverables of the grant. These deliverables include:
Educating policy makers, media, community citizenry, business leaders, civic leaders, and school leadership about local early education efforts as well as statewide initiatives such as Keystone STARS, Pennsylvania PreK Counts and Pennsylvania’s Promise for Children
Conducting a public education event – the Annual Family Fun Fest , which will take place on
March 19, 2011
Collaborating with personnel from early education programs and elementary schools to plan activities that increase successful transition for young children moving from one setting to another

Kennywood Tickets
Big Hearts Little Hands, the mentoring program at the YMCA is selling Kennywood tickets. The tickets are $20 and for weekdays only. This benefits the children of Indiana County involved in the summer programs at Big Hearts Little Hands. Please call 724-463-3377 for more information. “Attire to Aspire” has been very pleased with the community donations received. The donations have really made a difference in many men and women who need interview attire or work clothing.
