Jan. 23
District: Training in the Comprehensive Instructional Sequence Model
Data Review and Chats using Performance Matters
All Schools: Million Minute Marathon (Elementary will read How
Much is a Million and Middle and High School will participate in
Stop, Drop and Read)
Bronson Elementary: Send home “I LOVE TO READ” poster contest
flyer, distribute “How HOT can reading be?” thermometers to teachers
to color in as students read books, conduct a class vote and determine
the class favorite book, Decorate classroom door using the theme of
the classes favorite book.
Cedar Key School: Million Minute Marathon: Elementary How Much
is a Million and MS and HS—Stop, Drop and Read
Williston Elementary: Post Literacy Week announcement on Marquee,
Bookmark decorating contests, students will present GIST summaries
on their favorite book on the morning announcements throughout the
week. Administrators will be reading to classes throughout the week.
Williston Middle: Million Minute Marathon: All students and faculty
will participate in DEAR during the first 10 minutes in 1st period after
the morning announcements.
Williston High: Animoto Video shown school-wide. Teachers
Reading Posters created by the Arts Department Posted/Display kickoff.
Joyce Bullock: Morning contest- Quotes will be read from books. First
class to respond via intercom with the correct author wins. Kick of a
weeklong book swap in the Media Center and reading by grade level.
Each grade will have a Reading chart and stickers to document number
of books each child reads.
Chiefland Elementary: Kick off with morning readings on closed
circuit with guest readers.
Chiefland Middle: Teachers will read aloud from a variety of
mediums, focusing on a different medium each day. The students will
then read from a medium of their choice. Administrators, Counselor,
Reading Coach will read to classes throughout the week. Students will
be invited to design book covers for their favorite books.
Chiefland High: Stop Drop and Read for the Million Minutes of
Reading during 2nd period.
Yankeetown: Winter theme read-a-loud all week for elementary
students. Followed by ice skating to music for the students in our
media center who participate. Daily Literacy trivia questions during
morning announcements.

Jan. 24
Bronson Elementary: Pajama party with your favorite book
Bronson Middle/High: Literacy and Health by Nurse Angie (morning
announcement trivia competition), Kicking off AR for middle school.
Cedar Key: Community guest readers at elementary school
Chiefland Middle: Library will kick off a magazine fund raiser; the
funds will be used to buy books, fund the literary tea, and a field trip
for those who read all 15 Sunshine State Young Readers Award Books.
Chiefland High: Special focus on literacy skills during after school
tutoring.
Joyce Bullock Elementary: Million minutes of Reading—drop
everything and read.
Williston Elementary: Begin Collecting new/gently used children’s
book to sell in the PBS store for students to purchase with Wildcat
Cash.
Williston Middle: Book giveaway during all three lunch periods.
Begin bookmark contest through Language Arts Classes, Guess the
Literary Character using clues from the morning announcements.
Williston High: Book marks for the students listing the top 10 student
novels.
Yankeetown School: Book Mark contest promoting Literacy.

Jan. 25
Bronson Elementary: Read to your favorite stuffed animal
Bronson Middle/High: AR for middle school, new displays and
reading corner in Media Center.
Cedar Key: Storybook character dress up day
Chiefland Middle: Students will work on designing a book cover for
their favorite books.
Joyce Bullock Elementary: Buddy read with your partner class. Write a
letter to partner class about a book your class reads.
Nature Coast Middle School:
Williston Elementary: Special Area—Read on topics of tolerance and
kindness (Martin Luther King). Open special area classes during the
week with poetry.
Williston Middle: Students and/or teachers will read a review of their
favorite book during the morning announcements.
Williston High: A “Read-In” in the gymnasium w/pop corn and
snacks. Edible book Contest. “Read-In” is a sign-up in advance event
and limited to the first 50 participants.
Yankeetown School: 3rd-5th grade book give away.
Thursday,
Jan. 26
Bronson Elementary: School-wide favorite book vote using provided
ballots. School-wide favorite book data will be announced on the
morning show.
Bronson Middle/High: Middle School students will be encouraged to
check out AR books , through elective classes, as part of the AR kickoff.
Cedar Key: Decorate your door with a sea themed book
Chiefland Middle: The top ten book cover designers will have lunch in
the library with administrator(s), media clerk, reading coach.
Joyce Bullock Elementary: Read from Tumblebooks
Williston Elementary: Pass out at-home reading lists for students to
share with family members.
Williston High: Whole School Trivia Game with prizes provided by
PBS
Whispering Winds Charter School:
Yankeetown School: Teachers will promote some of their favorite
books by reading all or part of them to their students during the week.

Jan. 27
Bronson Elementary: I LOVE TO READ Poster Contest winners
announced on Morning Show, Door decorating contest winners
announced on Morning Show. Dress as your favorite book character
Bronson Middle/High: The Eagles Café Open in the Media Center for
tours, reading time, and requests for new book titles for the media
center.
Cedar Key: Reading Skit for entire school during Pep Rally (it is
Cedar Key Homecoming too!!—Go Sharks)
Chiefland Middle: Literacy Week will be carried forward as our annual
Literary Tea will be held on January 31st. Emphasis on reading
Sunshine Books today.
Joyce Bullock Elementary: Read around the school. Choose a special
location on campus to read
Williston Elementary: Classroom winners of bookmark decorating
contest will participate in a “Reader’s Tea” held in the Reading
Coach’s room.
Williston Middle: Students find out how they can qualify to win a field
trip to the movies in April.
Williston High: A play presented by the drama department and a
planning meeting to kick off a community cross-curricular project.
Yankeetown School : Special Preview of Scholastic Book Fair that will
run the following week.
