Jaipur Astronomers’ Institute and (Astro-)physical Observatory Rajasthan
JAIPOR is the historical name of city of Jaipur. Jaipur the Pink City of India was established by
an astronomer king Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh-II still reminisces of its glorious past through its
architectural relics and the geometry of town plan in the form of squares and circles.
Unfortunately, Astronomy flew up among the ashes of the pier of the mortal remains of the
legendary king along with his queens and concubines.
To revive the lost astronomical heritage of the city Amateur Astronomers’ Society, Jaipur
(AASJ) came forward and began its humble scientific activities.
JAIPOR is an institute established by Amateur Astronomers’ Society, Jaipur (AASJ) to
provide a platform to budding Astronomers and young minds for scientific research and
explorations in Astronomy and Astrophysics. The institute comes into being by a resolution of
the parent organization Amateur Astronomers’ Society, Jaipur (AASJ).
Resolution of the Society
Society resolves to establish a research institute with an observatory to strengthen the cause of
scientific research and explorations in Astronomy and Astrophysics (and related disciplines such
as, Cosmology and Space Science, Astro-chemistry, Astro-Biology and Exobiology), particulary
to address the needs and aspirations of budding Astronomers and young minds.
1 Society resolves to commence activities of the institute by appointing Mr. Sandip Bhattacharya
(Coordinator- Scientific Activities) as- Honorary Director of the institute and Dr. Aalok
(Coordinator- Academic Programmes) as- Visiting Scientist (Hanorary).
2 All projects and proposals of the institute have to be approved by the society.
3 Research Associates/Post Docs, JRFs, SRFs and other Project Assistants appointed in any
project will be treated as employees of the institute.
4 Society takes all responsibilities related to audits and accounts of the institute.
5 The institute will have to produce a performance appraisal- ‘Annual Report’ to the parent
society every year.

Amateur Astronomers’ Society, Jaipur (AASJ)
AASJ is a live organization for almost 15 years (since 1996) providing a platform for scientific
interactions and activities of sky observations to Astronomy Lovers in Jaipur and around. In
2009, the society was formally registered with the Govt. of Rajasthan vide Govt. of Rajasthan
notification/ Reg. No. 812 (dated 29th December, 2009).
Objectives of the Society
Society resolves to commit itself for the following objectives:
1 To spread scientific awareness amongst people with specific emphasis on popularization
of Astronomy and related disciplines.
2 To generate resources for the popularization of Astronomy and Space Science.
3 To organize “sky watching” activities with the participation of members and common men.
4 To promote Astrophotography amongst students and train them with the best techniques.
5 To organize Telescope Making workshops and train school and college going students with
necessary techniques.
6 To strengthen outreach of scientific activities of the society and make them accessible to
rural and deprived sections of the society.
