cultural group, use “find on page” to focus on education information.

chose. After the first search the entire Gale Virtual Reference Library will automatically
be searched unless you use advanced search to again limit to a single book.

Education Research Guide: Provides access to major database and Internet resources in
the field. Available through Research Guides by Subject on the library’s home page. See
also the History and News guides.
Books and more:
Library Catalog: Connect from the Library homepage to search for books, videos, and
much more. For primary sources, good search terms include: sources, diaries, journals,
letters, speeches, etc. – anything that is the original words of the person recording them.
Photographs, news articles and documents of the time period are other excellent primary
sources.
For books on your topics, you may want to try this combination of terms: <your group>
and American education history Also try synonyms or sub-groups, e.g., Chinese
American. A few relevant books may be electronic, available print books can be
requested via ILL.
For materials in the Teaching Resource Center (TRC) or Juvenile collections, use the
advanced search and limit by document type. (See TRC guide for more details.)

America: History and Life This database covers all aspects of history, so be sure to
include “schools” or “education” among your search terms.
SocINDEX with Full Text, 1908-present (varies by title; some indexing from 1895)
Full text for over 500 journals in sociology and related disciplines, and indexing for over
3000 others. Also includes relevant books and conference papers, many of them full-text,
and allows searching of cited references.
New York Times Article Archive Online index for New York Times since 1851 –
microfilm scanning of articles is available on request.
Reader’s Guide Retrospective Online index of popular magazines, 1890-1982.
Continues in paper in the Reference Room.
