The Heart Beat
of Sacred Heart
The Easter Lily - the spiritual essence of Easter. For many, the beautiful trumpet-shaped white flowers
symbolize purity, virtue, innocence, hope and life.
History, mythology, literature, poetry and the world of art are rife with stories and images that speak of the
beauty and majesty of the elegant white flowers. Often called the “white-robed apostles of hope,” lilies were
found growing in the Garden of Gethsemane after Christ’s agony. Tradition has it that the beautiful white lilies
sprung up where drops of Christ’s sweat fell to the ground in his final hours of sorrow and deep distress.
Churches continue this tradition at Easter time by banking their altars and surrounding their crosses with
masses of Easter Lilies, to commemorate the resurrection of Jesus Christ and hope of life everlasting.
Please give our beautiful lilies a home! Take them, plant them with love and care in your gardens. Over the
years many parishioners have planted the lilies and they’re thriving each year with beautiful blooms. You can
find them in Allan and Amelia, Leo and Millie’s gardens. Several have also been planted in the Williamson
Garden Club’s garden in downtown Williamson. Debby has put them on the table in the social hall.
Congratulations Josephine Remigio and Eric Vincent Yang

It’s getting time to think about the Sacred Heart Community Garden. Lonnie will have more information in the
coming weeks. Last year, our gardens provided many delicious tomatoes, squash, zucchini, cucumbers,
peppers, and other wonderful vegetables… Get your “green thumbs” ready!
 A special “thank you” to the Filipino Community for the delicious meager meal served after the Mass last
weekend. We are blessed by the love, commitment, and dedication of our sponsors for our continued
brunches.
 There is a tradition at Sacred Heart that is a part of our heritage. Certain parishioners through the years
have taken up residence in a certain pew. Many of us look around to see if someone is absent from the
weekend masses. It was wonderful to see some familiar faces last weekend. Saturday evening, sitting in her
pew that is close to the “Jiunta” Stained Glass window was Phyllis Moricle but missed “Granny Glover” in the
2nd d pew on the right! Then, on Sunday, Opal Maynard and Toni Roberts attended mass. We miss the third
member of their trio, Martha Hawkins. Also, it was great to see Jackie Ang on Sunday. Jackie is now living in
Florida and was in Williamson after attending Josephine Mata’s wedding. We missed half of the Spano family,
Missy’s mother, Cheryl Myers, and then Cheryl Smart not sitting in the third pew on the left with Mark; Janie
Hunt and Julie 2 in the fourth pew! There were many parishioners, especially our Filipino community, absent
last weekend. Many were also in Columbus, Ohio to attend the wedding. Our Sacred Heart Community is
blessed with many wonderful people. Your absence is noticed and your presence is a blessing!
Congratulations Casey!
Our Casey King, a 9th grader, was part of the cast for Mingo Central’s production of
“Thoroughly Modern Millie!” She has spent a lot of time learning the dances, songs, etc.
Show times were Friday, April 17th at 7:30 PM; Saturday afternoon at 2:00 PM and
evening at 7:30 PM. The musical was performed at the Mingo Central Auditorium!
Casey was presented a beautiful “bouquet of flowers” after the performance on Friday
evening by Julie and David Miller. Casey is the lovely voice we’ve heard recently in our
parish choir.
“Message of Love”
As we celebrate mass this 3rd Sunday of Easter be mindful of what a joy it is for every true
Christian to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus. It is not just the end of our period of penance
and sacrifice, but the beginning of a new life in Christ the risen Lord. Easter is a season and not a
day, a way of living into new life and finding a place within. This is the highest liturgical season
in our Catholic faith. The true message of Easter is a message of love. The love of our Heavenly
Father for sending us his Son. The love of Jesus Christ for us, for his willingness to be our
Redeemer; to suffer both in body and spirit, until he gave his life for us.
Always be mindful, because of what HE has done for us, the Lord Jesus Christ has a great and infinite
love for each of us. He has already given each of us the gift of the resurrection. He invited each of us to
come unto him. We are not alone as we face our sins and weaknesses. He can help us overcome them,
and lift great burdens from our souls, and give us peace. Come unto Him, that you may be healed.
A Pilgrimage of Prayer
Monsignor Frederick Annie and Monsignor Edward Sadie lead a large group of followers for the “Pilgrimage
of Prayer” in Charleston this past Sunday. They processed from the Basilica of the Co-Cathedral of the Sacred
Heart to B'Nai Jacob Synagogue in recognition of Pope Francis' upcoming visit to Jerusalem in May.
 Sacred Heart welcomed Rev. Fr. Bill Petro this past Sunday to celebrate Mass while Fr. Symeon was on
vacation. Fr. Bill is officially retired but not taking a break. He resides in Dunbar but is still very active in our
diocese. He is so eager to help out everywhere. His willingness to be there for the people, the parishes and his
fellow priests never tires. Fr. Bill will be the spiritual advisor with a group traveling to the Holy Land next
March 2015.
Next Sunday is Mother’s Day. A special brunch will be served to “All Ladies” of the parish
sponsored by our Knights of Columbus. Word around the parish – “Karl’s famous “Pancakes
and Sausage” are on the menu!
Mother’s Day is a day to honor “all” the special women in our lives – mothers, grandmothers,
aunts, friends, who have nurtured, love, and shaped us into the people we are today. It is
through their unconditional love that we begin to understand the dept of Christ’s love for us, and his command
to share that love with one another. We will honor and remember these special women during Mass next
weekend.
 A special “thank you” to Sam and Janice Olive, Lisa and Andy Ashurst for the delicious brunch served after
Mass last weekend. We are blessed by the love, commitment, and dedication of our sponsors for our
continued brunches.
The Catholic Sharing Appeal embraces the charitable, spiritual and educational needs of thousands of
individual families, helping to unite our various parishes into one diocesan family. A very special ‘thank you” to
Jerry Hurley for his presentation of the 2014 Catholic Sharing Appeal. More information will be available in the
coming weeks. Our Sacred Heart Church was among the top 10% of parishes that surpassed the goal for the
2013 Appeal.
Many thanks to parishioners and friends who donated to this year’s Easter Flower Fund. Sacred Heart
continues to be filled with the joy of the resurrection this Easter Season with the various flowers to add
the existing beauty of our altar.
Congratulations to Carrie Charles and Rodney Finch who entered the church at Easter Vigil.
We are blessed to have you.
Please continue to pray for our newly initiated members of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. They have
received the sacraments of Baptism, Eucharist, Confirmation, and Reconciliation. As Carrie and Rodney
continue their journey with God into the full communion of the Catholic Church, not only welcome them, but
also join with them in following Christ. At the same time, they enrich the Church by their example of openness
to God’s grace and the promptings of the Holy Spirit as they respond to the invitation of Jesus.
A message from Sacred Heart’s editors….
We strive every week to put interesting articles in our Heart Beat, Word and Church Bulletin.
We try to
encourage those who may be in need of a little lift of their spirits or perhaps a smile when they have had a bad
week. Announcements are a vital part of what we do, making sure everyone is aware of happenings in our
parish. We ask that you please notify us by noon on Wednesdays of any announcements you may have for our
bulletin or inserts. As always, we are here to serve the needs of our parish and it is our goal to make our
Bulletin, Heart Beat, and Word the best information source for our members. The spiritual guidance in the
Word will help you to understand more about the weekly readings; the Heart Beat will let you know how much
your efforts are appreciated in all that you do for the church; and the Bulletin keeps you abreast of all the
events, mass intentions, and general information of the happenings of the church. We sincerely hope that each
of you enjoys reading our weekly printed words. We work diligently on these publications each week and we
are always looking to you for your input and support. And it is with the humblest sincerity that we say…….
Thank you,
Amber & Janie
