This workshop will enable participants to understand a simple step by step
framework to support the development of visual skills in children with visual
impairment and complex needs.
The Positive Looking framework can been applied in any school or setting who are
working with children to assess vision; stimulate vision; maintain and encourage
child to maximize the use of their residual vision.
The course will take the practitioner through the hierarchy of visual skills with
explanation of what is meant by each skill and the goal for development in each
case. It will include demonstrations of how to develop each skill; ideas and activities
to support the practitioner in planning targeted interventions and observation points
to help assess and identify when the child is responding and demonstrating the
visual skill.
A wide range of resources for each visual skill and how to use them will form the
main practical, interactive nature of this meeting.
Presenter: Gwyn McCormack (Director, Positive Eye) QTVI, former Head of Service
and peripatetic VI teacher with over 15 years of experience in the field of vision
impairment.
