EXAMINATION INFORMATION
Picture identification is required at all examinations.
All examinations will be given at the MNU Testing/Tutoring Center located in the
Mabee Library.
CLEP EXAMS
The College Level Examination Program (CLEP) may be used to establish credit and advanced
standing. The University advises first-time freshmen ranking 24 and above in ACT subscore
areas to consider taking the CLEP exams. Credit will be granted only on scores at or above the
50th percentile. Students should consult with the academic advisor to determine the desirability
and acceptability of CLEP credit in meeting specific degree requirements. Credit validated by use
of the CLEP does not apply toward a major or minor unless so specified by that department. In
all cases, full academic credit for such work will not be granted until the student has successfully
completed at least one semester of work at MidAmerica Nazarene University (2.0 GPA). The
following tests can be used to substitute for some equivalent courses at MNU:

CLEP exam fee will be $92 per exam. Two separate checks are required – one made payable to
MNU for $20, and one made payable to CLEP for $72 per exam. Do not send money in advance.
Students will be able to take one CLEP exam at SOAR.
CLEP exams will also be offered in August at New Student Orientation, as well as monthly
throughout the academic year.
ACT TESTS
The ACT test is offered to students needing to take it for the first time, as well as
students who wish to enhance their score.
PLEASE NOTE:
RESIDUAL TESTING (ON CAMPUS) DOES NOT QUALIFY A
STUDENT FOR UNIVERSITY ATHLETIC ELIGIBILITY. THE ACT
TESTS MUST BE TAKEN ON A NATIONAL TEST DATE TO
MEET NAIA ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS.
The ACT test will be given from 8:00 to 12:00 noon on Friday at SOAR. The
cost is $40. Do not send payment in advance - Please bring payment on the day of
testing.
A minimum ACT score of 12 is required for provisional acceptance into MNU.
Graduates of accredited high schools who score 18 or below in the English, Reading
and/or Mathematics section(s) (SAT verbal of less than 470; Mathematics score of less
than 460) are required to complete one of two alternatives:
Retake the ACT and /or SAT, or
Take appropriate Compass Exams for placement
COMPASS TESTS
Compass tests are for anyone whose ACT score is 18 or below on the Reading, English
or Math portion of the ACT test. *Math Compass test will be given to all students who
have declared Business or Science as a major and are entering MNU with an ACT Math
sub-score less than 24.
If ACT scores are between 12 –18, and the student elects NOT to take a Compass test
or retake the ACT before classes begin, the student will automatically be placed in a
Writing Skills, Reading/Study Strategies and/or Fundamentals of Math class and cannot
take regular class work until the student has passed the assigned developmental
course(s).
Compass tests are given in MNU Testing Center (Mabee Library) during SOAR and
during the New Student Orientation scheduled prior to each semester. There is no
charge/fee for Compass Tests.
