Use this form to submit ideas for LEEDv3.0. Individuals may submit multiple ideas, however to

Idea Title:
Flood resistance in coastal areas (SS)
Idea Subject Matter:
To provide flood resistant construction in flood prone areas. Flood damage can
be extensive and often results in more damage than wind during and after
hurricanes. It is the cause of significant reconstruction.

Idea Text:
Intent: To provide flood resistant construction in flood prone areas and minimize
damage from floods.
Requirements: Construction in coastal V or A zones must be constructed on
open foundation with continuous piles in accordance with FEMA Coastal
Construction recommendations. The bottom of the lowest horizontal support
member must be above the BFE by at least 2 ft. Electrical, heating, ventilation,
plumbing, air conditioning equipment and other service facilities must be
elevated above the BFE by at least 2 ft. Zones are defined by the National
Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). A "V" zone is generally coastal and is
susceptible to wind-driven waves as well as rising water.

Submittals: Provide the LEED Letter Template, signed by the architect, civil
engineer, or responsible party, declaring that the design meets the requirements
for coastal area V or A zones.
