Please provide all information requested in this application. You must file a separate application for each child you
wish to instruct at home. You will be notified of the date, time, and place at which this application will be
considered by the Board of Trustees should you desire to attend. If your application is not approved, you have the
right to appeal the decision to the State Board of Education within ten days. Each application is approved for one
year only.

INSTRUCTIONAL PROGRAM
You must maintain the following documentation for each child you instruct:
(1) a written record of instruction in each subject area,
(2) a portfolio of the child’s work, and (samples may be requested)
(3) a record of evaluations you conduct.
It is also necessary that you provide to the school district reports of attendance and assessment twice during the
year on forms which will be provided. You must schedule 180 days of instruction to include 4 1/2 hours of
instruction per day exclusive of lunch and recess.

Per South Carolina Home School Laws high school students have to participate in
End-of-Course Exams. Courses that require End-of-Course Exams are English 1, Algebra 1, Physical Science, Mathematics for
Technologies 2 and US History and Constitution . For more information and standards for these courses please refer to South
Carolina Department of Education website. www.ed.sc.gov
In addition children who are home schooled are not eligible for a South Carolina High School Diploma. It is the parent’s
responsibility to note entrance requirements for home schooled children at the post-secondary institution your child might wish
to attend in the future.

state required testing - Section 59-65-40 Part A (6).
Please indicate which option you prefer for your child’s participation in the State Testing Program. (Details will be
provided prior to testing dates.)


Parent must have a minimum of a GED or high school diploma.

Attach a copy of the GED, diploma, or degree to the application form.

Students must participate in the state-required testing program.


Applications must be renewed annually.
