Re: Vetting of Ships
Dear Jon,
As previously discussed we have identified that one of the major risks is the quality of vessels
berthing in Geelong, especially at a high risk area such as Refinery Pier.
This email is to inform Shell that as from the 1st of July 2010, GeelongPort will require written
verification that all vessels chartered by Shell or their customers have been vetted via a ‘ship
quality assurance’ system.
It is important that Charterers exercise due diligence and take all reasonable measures to ensure
ships meet all relevant regulations and requirements, and are in a suitable condition for voyages,
and will be safely operated, to avoid incidents.
I understand that Shell do undertake their own vetting of vessels prior to chartering them so we
would require confirmation that this is so and also would require advice on what criteria Shell use in
their vetting of vessels.
As of the 1st of July it will become a requirement that on applying for a berth, along with the
Application for Berth we will also require details of vessels vetting data and risk rating.
If you require any clarification please do not hesitate to give me a call.
Yours sincerely
Ken Stanley
