TEMPERATURES RISE AT WINTER PARK RESORT AS COLORADO CHEFS
COMPETE IN THE 29TH ANNUAL FAMOUS FLAMETHROWER'S
HIGH ALTITUDE CHILI COOK-OFF
Chili Competition is August 11-12 and Supports the National Sports Center for the
Disabled
WINTER PARK, COLO., Aug. 2, 2007 - Wielding fire scorching recipes, the best Chilimaking chefs from across Colorado are gathering at Winter Park Resort this August
11 – 12 to compete in the high stakes 29th Annual Famous Flamethrower's High
Altitude Chili Cook-off. Sanctioned by the International Chili Society (ICS) and
benefiting the National Sports Center for the Disabled, chefs will go head to head for
rights to the state title and opportunity to represent the Rocky Mountain Region at
the World Chili Cook-off held in Omaha, Nebraska, October 5 – 7. The event kicks off
at 10 a.m. and is free.
“These chefs have been perfecting their hot and delicious recipes all year,” said Patty
McCarthy, Winter Park Resort event organizer. “Judges are looking for the best red
chili, green chili, or salsa recipe but are also excited about the addition of a new and
non-sanctioned ICS event, the Guac-Off. One talented chef will win full bragging
rights for the best guacamole in the state.”
The ICS is the largest food contest and festival organization in the world, organizing
fundraising events worldwide that benefit charities and non-profit organizations. Last
chili season, October 1, 2005 to September 30, 2006, the ICS sanctioned over 200
cookoffs with over one million people tasting, cooking, and judging. First place
winners from Winter Park Resort’s Famous Flamethrower's High Altitude Chili Cookoff will earn the right to advance to the World Championship Chili Cook-off held later
this fall. Cash and trophy prizes will also be awarded for first through third place in
each division.
Starting at 11 a.m. visitors can sample the chili, salsa and guacamole of their choice
by purchasing taste tickets (two for $1.00). Judges are also needed to evaluate the
chili, salsa and guacamole. For more information on the Famous Flamethrower’s
High Altitude Chili Cook-off including official entry rules, or to volunteer as a judge,
