The Great Gatsby/1920s Web-Quest
Before reading any novel, it’s important to have a basic understanding of the time period during which the story is
set. Why?—in order to understand the atmosphere of the times and why the characters in the story think and act
the way they do. Today, you will be working on an independent Web-Quest in the computer lab in order to provide
you with important background knowledge of the 1920s (the era during which The Great Gatsby is set). For this
Web-Quest, you will be asked to navigate to various websites to find specific pieces of information about the
1920s.
Once you have logged on to your computer in the lab, please navigate to the following website:

Follow the directions given for each question. Click on the link/links provided in each question to find the required
information. Please take the time to actually read the information on the websites and don’t just skim through.
Answer each question thoroughly and in complete sentences. DO NOT “cut and paste” your answers (that would
be plagiarism)! Rephrase the answers in your own words. MAKE SURE YOU ANSWER ALL PARTS OF ALL
QUESTIONS. Your answers may be handwritten or typed, but if you plan on typing/printing, make sure you save
your document to your shared drive at the end of the period AND save in a second manner as well (i.e. saving to a
flash drive or emailing the document to yourself as an attachment). No excuses for not having a HARDCOPY of the
assignment ready to turn in when it is due.
