BC Wrestling Ranked 8th as a Provincial Targeted Sport.
Thanks to the support of our funding partners; Ministry of Community, Sport and Cultural
Development, 2010 Legacies Now, and the Canadian Sport Centre Pacific, BC Wrestling is able
to achieve the outstanding National and International results that qualify BC Wrestling as a
Targeted Sport.
The Targeted Sport Strategy supports training and development programs for athletes who are
on a pathway to move from provincial programs to national development programs and national
teams. The Targeted Sport Strategy is one of three performance pathways in British Columbia’s
Integrated Performance System, the title used for all of the programming for development of BC’s
high-performance athletes.
2010 Legacies Now is committed to creating a sport performance environment which supports
BC athletes in reaching their goals. The Targeted Sport Strategy provides strategic and technical
support and funding for identified sports.
This innovative delivery system strives to put more BC athletes on national teams and links
with Podium Canada to increase medal-winning performances by Canadian athletes. The
Integrated Performance System, including the Targeted Sport Strategy and the Regional Coach
program, is led by Canadian Sport Centre Pacific with 2010 Legacies Now, and has a working
group that includes BC Athlete Voice, the BC Games Society, the Coaches Association of BC,
the National Coaching Institute (BC), SportMedBC , the Province of BC and Sport BC.
The program:
* Works with regional, provincial and national sport organizations to develop and implement each
sport's pathway for BC athletes to move from the performance sport entry level such as BC
Games, through Canada Games and national championships, to national development team and
national team levels.
* Provides technical expertise for planning leadership and assistance to transform BC
performance sport by optimizing opportunities and building on strengths.
* Connects sport medicine and sport science practitioners to identified athletes at both provincial
and national levels.
* Leverages opportunities through partnerships with BC-based national training centres.
* Develops strategies to provide appropriate access to high-performance facilities for
athletes and coaches.
* Provides regional support and services through PacificSport Centres.
