ASA Level 2 Swimming Teachers Wanted The ASA and the RNLI are working in partnership to deliver Swim Safe for the third successive year. Programmes in 2013 and 2014 saw over 6,000 children participate and learn how to be safe in different water environments. This year Swim Safe will be hosted at a number of sites, for which we are recruiting for teachers at: Boscombe Beach, Bournemouth Sandhaven Beach, South Shields, Tyne and Wear Brockhole Park and Lake Windermere Lake District Friends of Bude Seapool, Bude The programme offers free improver swimming sessions and beach/lake/seapool safety advice for children aged 7-14. Most young people learn to swim in an indoor pool which is a safe and familiar environment. Swim Safe gives young people the opportunity to test and improve their swimming ability in a different aquatic environment. Children are being offered the opportunity to attend the FREE 40 minute session which will include beach safety advice provided by RNLI lifeguards and up to 30 minutes in-water tuition with ASA accredited teachers. The programme is weather dependent and sessions will be adjusted accordingly. Schools Programme – Swim Safe For Schools We will also be providing sessions during school term time to selected primary schools. Times and dates are provided and are all subject to weather and sea/pool conditions. Skills Required: We are seeking ASA Level 2 qualified swimming teachers who are local to each venue, with experience of delivering personal survival and water safety lessons. Suitable for teachers who: Have a friendly, approachable manner, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, good time keeping and organisational skills, along with a flexible approach to the different weather and water conditions. Local knowledge and experience of the water environment is desirable. Not suitable for teachers who: Don’t like teaching in open water, outdoors and adapting to weather and water conditions Minimum age: 18 years For each day of the programme we require 3 x ASA Level 2 – Aquatic Teachers per site. ASA Level 2 Swimming Teachers will be paid £12 per hour. (Approximate working hours will be five to six hours each day, to include 15 minutes prior to sessions and 15 minutes after the last session is complete) Swim Safe Teacher Training Day Date: Time: Venue: What’s involved? TBC (June 2015) TBC (Approx 10am – 2pm) TBC (Local to each site) Swimming teachers will be provided with an outline of the programme and how the sessions are to be delivered. All teachers that are appointed to the programme will need to attend this training session. Kit Teachers will be provided with Swim Safe branded polo-shirts, a waterproof jacket, a hoodie and rash vests to teach in (please detail the sizes required on the application form). Teachers at beach and lake locations will be teaching in the water and will require their own wetsuit which is suitable for the water environment. Loan of wetsuits may be possible if required, dependent on size and availability. Availability Swimming teachers will be asked to commit to a minimum of three to four days per week, ideally six days per week. Consideration will be given to teachers who can commit regularly for the duration of Swim Safe at a given location.
