Procedures and Discussion:
“Today we are going to view detailed steps that will lead to success after graduation. It is
important to start planning and preparing now for post secondary training and education.”
1. Distribute handouts.
2. Have students with similar post-secondary plans work in small groups or pairs.
a. First allow students to go through the checklist individually, checking off what
they have already accomplished.
b. Next, have students share with partner(s) what they still have left to do and how
they are planning on completing these tasks.
3. Next, encourage students to use computers or their personal devices to work in groups
to research information needed for post-secondary plans.
4. After students have discussed with partners their educational checklists, return to whole
group discussion.
5. Allow students to share what they found easy to complete and then what they are
having difficulty completing. Utilizing help from all students, brainstorm to come up
with suggestions on how to accomplish each student’s individual goals to achieve postsecondary success (as needed).
6. Have students record on their checklists the two websites under Additional Resources.
Emphasize the value of these Web sites.
7. Ask students to update their electronic portfolios (www.cfwv.com) with any new
information resulting from today’s lesson.
8. Collect each student’s postsecondary plan, copy and place in student’s paper portfolio
to be available for later use.
