Sexual Morality
Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall
become one flesh. (Gen 2:24)
"You shall not commit adultery." (Exo 20:14 and Deu 5:18)
"You shall not covet your neighbor's house; you shall not covet your neighbor's wife, nor his
field, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything
that is your neighbor's." (Exo 20:17 and Deu 5:21)
"If a man entices a virgin who is not betrothed, and lies with her, he shall pay the bride-price
for her to be his wife. If her father utterly refuses to give her to him, he shall pay money
according to the bride-price of virgins." (Exo 22:16-17)
"Whoever lies with an animal shall surely be put to death." (Exo 22:19)
"You shall observe My judgments and keep My ordinances, to walk in them: I am the Lord
your God. You shall therefore keep My statutes and My judgments, which if a man does, he
shall live by them: I am the Lord. None of you shall approach anyone who is near of kin to
him, to uncover his nakedness: I am the Lord. The nakedness of your father or the nakedness
of your mother you shall not uncover. She is your mother; you shall not uncover her
nakedness. The nakedness of your father's wife you shall not uncover; it is your father's
nakedness. The nakedness of your sister, the daughter of your father, or the daughter of your
mother, whether born at home or elsewhere, their nakedness you shall not uncover.
The nakedness of your son's daughter or your daughter's daughter, their nakedness you shall
not uncover; for theirs is your own nakedness. The nakedness of your father's wife's
daughter, begotten by your father - she is your sister - you shall not uncover her nakedness.
You shall not uncover the nakedness of your father's sister; for she is near of kin to your
father. You shall not uncover the nakedness of your mother's sister, for she is near of kin to
your mother. You shall not uncover the nakedness of your father's brother. You shall not
approach his wife; she is your aunt. You shall not uncover the nakedness of your daughter-inlaw - she is your son's wife - you shall not uncover her nakedness. You shall not uncover the
nakedness of your brother's wife; it is your brother's nakedness. You shall not uncover the
nakedness of a woman and her daughter, nor shall you take her son's daughter or her
daughter's daughter, to uncover her nakedness. They are near of kin to her. It is wickedness.
Nor shall you take a woman as a rival to her sister, to uncover her nakedness while the other
is alive. Also you shall not approach a woman to uncover her nakedness as long as she is in
her customary impurity. Moreover you shall not lie carnally with your neighbor's wife, to defile
yourself with her." (Lev 18:4-20)
"You shall not lie with a male as with a woman. It is an abomination. Nor shall you mate with
any animal, to defile yourself with it. Nor shall any woman stand before an animal to mate with
it. It is perversion." (Lev 18:22-23)
"Whoever lies carnally with a woman who is betrothed to a man as a concubine, and who has
not at all been redeemed nor given her freedom, for this there shall be scourging; but they
shall not be put to death, because she was not free. And he shall bring his trespass offering to
the Lord, to the door of the tabernacle of meeting, a ram as a trespass offering. The priest
shall make atonement for him with the ram of the trespass offering before the Lord for his sin
which he has committed. And the sin which he has committed shall be forgiven him."
(Lev 19:20-22)
"Do not prostitute your daughter, to cause her to be a harlot, lest the land fall into harlotry, and
the land become full of wickedness." (Lev 19:29)
"The man who commits adultery with another man's wife, he who commits adultery with his
neighbor's wife, the adulterer and the adulteress, shall surely be put to death. The man who
lies with his father's wife has uncovered his father's nakedness; both of them shall surely be
put to death. Their blood shall be upon them. If a man lies with his daughter-in-law, both of
1
them shall surely be put to death. They have committed perversion. Their blood shall be upon
them. If a man lies with a male as he lies with a woman, both of them have committed an
abomination. They shall surely be put to death. Their blood shall be upon them. If a man
marries a woman and her mother, it is wickedness. They shall be burned with fire, both he
and they, that there may be no wickedness among you. If a man mates with an animal, he
shall surely be put to death, and you shall kill the animal. If a woman approaches any animal
and mates with it, you shall kill the woman and the animal. They shall surely be put to death.
Their blood is upon them. If a man takes his sister, his father's daughter or his mother's
daughter, and sees her nakedness and she sees his nakedness, it is a wicked thing. And they
shall be cut off in the sight of their people. He has uncovered his sister's nakedness. He shall
bear his guilt. If a man lies with a woman during her sickness and uncovers her nakedness,
he has exposed her flow, and she has uncovered the flow of her blood. Both of them shall be
cut off from their people. You shall not uncover the nakedness of your mother's sister nor of
your father's sister, for that would uncover his near of kin. They shall bear their guilt.
If a man lies with his uncle's wife, he has uncovered his uncle's nakedness. They shall bear
their sin; they shall die childless. If a man takes his brother's wife, it is an unclean thing. He
has uncovered his brother's nakedness. They shall be childless." (Lev 20:10-21)
"The daughter of any priest, if she profanes herself by playing the harlot, she profanes her
father. She shall be burned with fire." (Lev 21:9)
"A woman shall not wear anything that pertains to a man, nor shall a man put on a woman's
garment, for all who do so are an abomination to the Lord your God." (Deu 22:5)
"If any man takes a wife, and goes in to her, and detests her, and charges her with shameful
conduct, and brings a bad name on her, and says, 'I took this woman, and when I came in to
her I found she was not a virgin.' then the father and mother of the young woman shall take
and bring out the evidence of the young woman's virginity to the elders of the city at the gate.
And the young woman's father shall say to the elders, 'I gave my daughter to this man as
wife, and he detests her. Now he has charged her with shameful conduct, saying, "I found
your daughter was not a virgin," and yet these are the evidences of my daughters virginity.'
And they shall spread the cloth before the elders of the city. Then the elders of that city shall
take that man and punish him; and they shall fine him one hundred shekels of silver and give
them to the father of the young woman, because he has brought a bad name on a virgin of
Israel. And she shall be his wife; he cannot divorce her all his days. But if the thing is true,
and evidences of virginity are not found for the young woman, then they shall bring out the
young woman to the door of her father's house, and the men of her city shall stone her to
death with stones, because she has done a disgraceful thing in Israel, to play the harlot in her
father's house. So you shall put away the evil from among you." (Deu 22:13-21)
"If a man is found lying with a woman married to a husband, then both of them shall die - the
man that lay with the woman, and the woman; so you shall put away the evil from Israel."
(Deu 22:22)
"If a young woman who is a virgin is betrothed to a husband, and a man finds her in the city
and lies with her, then you shall bring them both out to the gate of that city, and you shall
stone them to death with stones, the young woman because she did not cry out in the city,
and the man because he humbled his neighbor's wife; so you shall put away the evil from
among you. But if a man finds a betrothed young woman in the countryside, and the man
forces her and lies with her, then only the man who lay with her shall die. But you shall do
nothing to the young woman; there is in the young woman no sin deserving of death, for just
as when a man rises against his neighbor and kills him, even so in this matter. For he found
her in the countryside, and the betrothed young woman cried out, but there was no one to
save her." (Deu 22:23-27)
"If a man finds a young woman who is a virgin, who is not betrothed, and he seizes her and
lies with her, and they are found out, then the man who lay with her shall give to the young
woman's father fifty shekels of silver, and she shall be his wife because he has humbled her;
he shall not be permitted to divorce her all his days." (Deu 22:28-29)
2
"A man shall not take his father's wife, nor uncover his father's bed." (Deu 22:30)
"There shall be no ritual harlot of the daughters of Israel, or a perverted one of the sons of
Israel." (Deu 23:17) (Prostitution and sodomy, is outlawed amongst the people of God.)
"When a man takes a wife and marries her, and it happens that she finds no favor in his eyes
because he has found some uncleanness in her, and he writes her a certificate of divorce,
puts it in her hand, and sends her out of his house, when she has departed from his house,
and goes and becomes another man's wife, if the latter husband detests her and writes her a
certificate of divorce, puts it in her hand, and sends her out of his house, or if the latter
husband dies who took her as his wife, then her former husband who divorced her must not
take her back to be his wife after she has been defiled; for that is an abomination before the
Lord, and you shall not bring sin on the land which the Lord your God is giving you as an
inheritance." (Deu 24:1-4)
"If two men fight together, and the wife of one draws near to rescue her husband from the
hand of the one attacking him, and puts out her hand and seizes him by the genitals, then you
shall cut off her hand; your eye shall not pity her." (Deu 25:11)
Do not envy the oppressor, and choose none of his ways; for the perverse person is an
abomination to the Lord, but His secret counsel is with the upright. (Pro 3:31-32)
My son, pay attention to my wisdom; lend your ear to my understanding, that you may
preserve discretion, and your lips may keep knowledge. For the lips of an immoral woman
drip honey, and her mouth is smoother than oil; but in the end she is bitter as wormwood,
sharp as a two-edged sword. Her feet go down to death, her steps lay hold of hell. Lest you
ponder her path of life - her ways are unstable; you do not know them. Therefore hear me
now, my children, and do not depart from the words of my mouth. Remove your way far from
her, and do not go near the door of her house, lest you give your honor to others, and your
years to the cruel one; lest aliens be filled with your wealth, and your labors go to the house of
a foreigner; and you mourn at last, when your flesh and your body are consumed, and say:
"How I have hated instruction, and my heart despised correction! I have not obeyed the voice
of my teachers, nor inclined my ear to those who instructed me! I was on the verge of total
ruin, in the midst of the assembly and congregation."
Drink water from your own cistern, and running water from your own well. Should your
fountains be dispersed abroad, streams of water in the streets? Let them be only your own
and not for strangers with you. Let your fountain be blessed, and rejoice with the wife of your
youth. As a loving deer and a graceful doe, let her breasts satisfy you at all times; and always
be enraptured with her love. For why should you, my son, be enraptured by an immoral
woman, and be embraced in the arms of a seductress?
For the ways of man are before the Lord, and He ponders all his paths. His own iniquities
entrap the wicked man, and he is caught in the cords of his sin. He shall die for lack of
instruction, and in the greatness of his folly he shall go astray. (Pro 5)
My son, keep your father's command, and do not forsake the law of your mother. Bind them
continually upon your heart; tie them around your neck. When you roam, they will lead you;
when you sleep, they will keep you; and when you awake, they will speak with you. For the
commandment is a lamp, and the law a light; reproofs of instruction are the way of life, to
keep you from the evil woman, from the flattering tongue of a seductress. Do not lust after her
beauty in your heart, nor let her allure you with her eyelids. For by means of a harlot a man is
reduced to a crust of bread; and an adulteress will prey upon his precious life. Can a man
take fire to his bosom, and his clothes not be burned? Can one walk on hot coals and his feet
not be seared? So is he who goes in to his neighbor's wife; whoever touches her shall not be
innocent. People do not despise a thief if he steals to satisfy himself when he is starving. Yet
when he is found, he must restore sevenfold; he may have to give up all the substance of his
house. Whoever commits adultery with a woman lacks understanding; he who does so
destroys his own soul. Wounds and dishonor he will get, and his reproach will not be wiped
away. For jealousy is a husband's fury; therefore he will not spare in the day of vengeance.
He will accept no recompense, nor will he be appeased though you give many gifts.
(Pro 6:20-35)
3
My son, keep my words, and treasure my commands within you. Keep my commands and
live, and my law as the apple of your eye. Bind them on your fingers; write them on the tablet
of your heart. Say to wisdom, "You are my sister," and call understanding your nearest kin,
that they may keep you from the immoral woman, from the seductress who flatters with her
words.
For at the window of my house I looked through my lattice, and saw among the simple, I
perceived among the youths, a young man devoid of understanding, passing along the street
near her corner; and he took the path to her house in the twilight, in the evening, in the black
and dark night. And there a woman met him, with the attire of a harlot, and a crafty heart.
She was loud and rebellious, her feet would not stay home. At times she was outside, at
times in the open square, lurking at every corner. So she caught him and kissed him; with an
impudent face she said to him:
"I have peace offerings with me; today I have paid my vows. So I came out to meet you,
diligently to seek your face, and I have found you. I have spread my bed with tapestry,
colored coverings of Egyptian linen. I have perfumed my bed with myrrh, aloes and cinnamon.
Come, let us take our fill of love until morning; let us delight ourselves with love. For my
husband is not at home; he has gone on a long journey; he has taken a bag of money with
him, and will come home on the appointed day."
With her enticing speech she caused him to yield, with her flattering lips she seduced him.
Immediately he went after her, as an ox goes to the slaughter, or as a fool to the correction of
the stocks, till an arrow struck his liver. As a bird hastens to the snare, he did not know it
would cost his life.
Now therefore, listen to me, my children; pay attention to the words of my mouth: Do not let
your heart turn aside to her ways, do not stray into her paths; for she has cast down many
wounded, and all who were slain by her were strong men. Her house is the way to hell,
descending to the chambers of death. (Pro 7)
A foolish woman is clamorous; she is simple, and knows nothing. For she sits at the door of
her house, on a seat by the highest places of the city, to call to those who pass by, who go
straight on their way: "Whoever is simple, let him turn in here"; and as for him who lacks
understanding, she says to him, "Stolen water is sweet, and bread eaten in secret is
pleasant." But he does not know that the dead are there, that her guests are in the depth's of
hell. (Pro 9:13-18)
He who walks with integrity walks securely, but he who perverts his ways will become known.
In the multitude of words sin is not lacking, but he who restrains his lips is wise. The mouth of
the righteous brings forth wisdom, but the perverse tongue will be cut out. The lips of the
righteous know what is acceptable, but the mouth of the wicked what is perverse.
(Pro 10:9, 19, 31, 32)
A man will be commended according to his wisdom, but he who is of perverse heart will be
despised. (Pro 12:8)
He who walks in his uprightness fears the Lord, but he who is perverse in his ways despises
Him. (Pro 14:2)
My son, give me your heart, and let your eyes observe my ways. For a harlot is a deep pit,
and a seductress is a narrow well. She also lies in wait as for a victim, and increases the
unfaithful among men. (Pro 23:26-28)
Whoever walks blamelessly will be saved, but he who is perverse in his ways will suddenly
fall. (Pro 28:18)
"You have heard that it was said to those of old, 'You shall not commit adultery.' But I say to
you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in
his heart. If your right eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and cast it from you; for it is more
profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into
hell. And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and cast it from you; for it is more
profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into
4
hell. Furthermore it has been said, 'Whoever divorces his wife, let him give her a certificate of
divorce.' But I say to you that whoever divorces his wife for any reason except sexual
immorality causes her to commit adultery; and whoever marries a woman who is divorced
commits adultery." (Mat 5:27-32)
He said to them, "Moses, because of the hardness of your hearts, permitted you to divorce
your wives, but from the beginning it was not so. And I say to you, whoever divorces his wife,
except for sexual immorality, and marries another, commits adultery; and whoever marries
her who is divorced commits adultery." (Mat 19:8-9)
They said, "Moses permitted a man to write a certificate of divorce, and to dismiss her." And
Jesus answered and said to them, "Because of the hardness of your heart he wrote you this
precept. But from the beginning of the creation, God 'made them male and female'. For this
reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall
become one flesh; so then they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has
joined together, let not man separate." In the house His disciples also asked Him again about
the same matter. So He said to them, "Whoever divorces his wife and marries another
commits adultery against her. And if a woman divorces her husband and marries another, she
commits adultery." (Mar 10:4-12)
Now the Pharisees, who were lovers of money, also heard all these things, and they derided
Him. And He said to them, "You are those who justify yourselves before men, but God knows
your hearts. For what is highly esteemed among men is an abomination in the sight of God.
The law and the prophets were until John. Since that time the kingdom of God has been
preached, and everyone is pressing into it. And it is easier for heaven and earth to pass away
than for one tittle of the law to fail. Whoever divorces his wife and marries another commits
adultery; and whoever marries her who is divorced from her husband commits adultery."
(Luk 16:14-18) (This is a different context, don't divorce 'God's law' to marry 'Grace' !!!)
Then Saul, who also is called Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, looked intently at him and said,
"O full of all deceit and all fraud, you son of the devil, you enemy of all righteousness, will you
not cease perverting the straight ways of the Lord?" (Act 13:9-10)
"Therefore I judge that we should not trouble those from among the Gentiles who are turning
to God, but that we write to them to abstain from things polluted by idols, from sexual
immorality, from things strangled, and from blood." (Act 15:19-20)
For it seemed good to the Holy Spirit, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than these
necessary things: that you abstain from things offered to idols, from blood, from things
strangled, and from sexual immorality. If you keep yourselves from these, you will do well.
Farewell. (Act 15:28-29)
For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for
everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek. For in it the righteousness of
God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, "The just shall live by faith." (Rom 1:16-17)
For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of
men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because what may be known of God is
manifest to them, for God has shown it to them.
For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood
by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without
excuse, because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were
thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened.
Professing to be wise, they became fools, and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into
an image made like corruptible man - and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things.
Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their
bodies among themselves, who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshipped and
served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever, Amen. (Rom 1:18-25)
5
For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the
natural use for what is against nature. Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of
woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and
receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due. And even as they did not like
to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things
which are not fitting; being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness,
covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness; they are
whisperers, backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things,
disobedient to parents, undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving, unmerciful; who,
knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of
death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them. (Rom 1:26-32)
Therefore you are inexcusable, O man, whoever you are who judge, for in whatever you
judge another you condemn yourself; for you who judge practice the same things. But we
know that the judgment of God is according to truth against those who practice such things.
And do you think this, O man, you who judge those practicing such things, and doing the
same, that you will escape the judgment of God? Or do you despise the riches of His
goodness, forbearance, and longsuffering, not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to
repentance? But in accordance with your hardness and your impenitent heart you are
treasuring up for yourself wrath in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of
God, who "will render to each one according to his deeds": eternal life to those who by patient
continuance in doing good seek for glory, honor, and immortality; but to those who are selfseeking and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness - indignation and wrath,
tribulation and anguish, on every soul of man who does evil, of the Jew first and also of the
Greek; but glory, honor, and peace to everyone who works what is good, to the Jew first and
also to the Greek. For there is no partiality with God. (Rom 2:1-11)
The night is far spent, the day is at hand. Therefore let us cast off the works of darkness, and
let us put on the armor of light. Let us walk properly, as in the day, not in revelry and
drunkenness, not in lewdness and lust, not in strife and envy. But put on the Lord Jesus
Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts. (Rom 13:12-14)
But now I have written to you not to keep company with anyone named a brother, who is
sexually immoral, or covetous, or an idolater, or a reviler, or a drunkard, or an extortioner not even to eat with such a person. (1Co 5:11)
Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be
deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites,
nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom
of God. (1Co 6:9)
Foods for the stomach and the stomach for foods, but God will destroy both it and them. Now
the body is not for sexual immorality but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body. And God both
raised up the Lord and will also raise us up by His power. Do you not know that your bodies
are members of Christ? Shall I then take the members of Christ and make them members of
a harlot? Certainly not! Or do you not know that he who is joined to a harlot is one body with
her? For "the two", He says, "shall become one flesh". But he who is joined to the Lord is one
spirit with Him. Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he
who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. Or do you not know that your body
is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your
own? For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit,
which are God's. (1Co 6:13-20)
Now concerning the things of which you wrote to me: It is good for a man not to touch a
woman. Nevertheless, because of sexual immorality, let each man have his own wife, and let
each woman have her own husband. Let the husband render to his wife the affection due her,
and likewise also the wife to her husband. The wife does not have authority over her own
body, but the husband does. And likewise the husband does not have authority over his own
body, but the wife does. Do not deprive one another except with consent for a time, that you
6
may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again so that Satan does not
tempt you because of your lack of self-control. But I say this as a concession, not as a
commandment. For I wish that all men were even as I myself. But each one has his own gift
from God, one in this manner and another in that. But I say to the unmarried and to the
widows: It is good for them if they remain even as I am; but if they cannot exercise selfcontrol, let them marry. For it is better to marry than to burn with passion. (1Co 7:1-9)
Moreover, brethren, I do not want you to be unaware that all our fathers were under the cloud,
all passed through the sea, all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea, all ate
the same spiritual food, and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank of that spiritual
Rock that followed them, and that Rock was Christ. But with most of them God was not well
pleased, for their bodies were scattered in the wilderness. Now these things became our
examples, to the intent that we should not lust after evil things as they also lusted. And do not
become idolaters as were some of them. As it is written, "The people sat down to eat and
drink, and rose up to play." Nor let us commit sexual immorality, as some of them did, and in
one day twenty-three thousand fell; nor let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted,
and were destroyed by serpents; nor complain, as some of them also complained, and were
destroyed by the destroyer. Now all these things happened to them as examples, and they
were written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the ages have come. Therefore let
him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall. No temptation has overtaken you except such
as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what
you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able
to bear it. (1Co 10:1-13)
I marvel that you are turning away so soon from Him who called you in the grace of Christ, to
a different gospel, which is not another; but there are some who trouble you and want to
pervert the gospel of Christ. But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel
to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed. (Gal 1:6-8)
I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusts
against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so
that you do not do the things that you wish. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under
the law. Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness,
lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish
ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of
which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such
things will not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace,
longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is
no law. And those who are Christ's have crucified the flesh with it's passions and desires.
If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. (Gal 5:16-25)
And you He has made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins, in which you once
walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air,
the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience, among whom also we all once
conducted ourselves in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind,
and were by nature children of wrath, just as the others. But God, who is rich in mercy,
because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses,
made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up
together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, that in the ages to
come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ
Jesus. For by grace you have been saved through faith, and not of yourselves; it is the gift of
God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ
Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.
(Eph 2:1-10)
This I say, therefore, and testify in the Lord, that you should no longer walk as the rest of the
Gentiles walk, in the futility of their mind, having their understanding darkened, being
alienated from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the
blindness of their heart; who, being past feeling, have given themselves over to lewdness, to
work all uncleanness with greediness. But you have not so learned Christ, if indeed you have
7
heard Him and have been taught by Him, as the truth is in Jesus: that you put off, concerning
your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, and be
renewed in the spirit of your mind, and that you put on the new man which was created
according to God, in true righteousness and holiness. (Eph 4:17-24)
For this you know, that no fornicator, unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater,
has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God. Let no one deceive you with empty
words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience.
Therefore do not be partakers with them. (Eph 5:5-7)
Brethren, join in following my example, and note those who so walk, as you have us for a
pattern. For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that
they are the enemies of the cross of Christ: whose end is destruction, whose god is their
belly, and whose glory is in their shame - who set their mind on earthly things. (Plp 3:17-19)
For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you should abstain from sexual immorality;
that each of you should know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honor, not
in passion of lust, like the Gentiles who do not know God; that no one should take advantage
of and defraud his brother in this matter, because the Lord is the avenger of all such, as we
also forewarned you and testified. For God did not call us to uncleanness, but in holiness.
Therefore he who rejects this does not reject man, but God, who has also given us His Holy
Spirit. (1Th 4:3-8)
Pursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord: looking
carefully lest anyone fall short of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up
cause trouble, and by this many become defiled; lest there be any fornicator or profane
person like Esau, who for one morsel of food sold his birthright. For you know that afterward,
when he wanted to inherit the blessing, he was rejected, for he found no place for repentance,
though he sought it diligently with tears. (Heb 12:14-17)
Marriage is honorable among all, and the bed undefiled; but fornicators and adulterers God
will judge. (Heb 13:4)
Adulterers and adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with
God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.
(Jam 4:4)
Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He
will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you doubleminded. Lament and mourn and weep! Let your laughter be turned into mourning and your joy
to gloom. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up. (Jam 4:7-10)
Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and rest your hope fully upon the grace
that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; as obedient children, not
conforming yourselves to the former lusts, as in your ignorance; but as He who called you is
holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, because it is written, "Be holy, for I am holy".
(1Pe 1:13-16)
Beloved, I beg you as sojourners and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts which war against
the soul, having your conduct honorable among the Gentiles, that when they speak against
you as evildoers, they may, by your good works which they observe, glorify God in the day of
visitation. (1Pe 2:11-12)
8
Therefore, since Christ suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same mind,
for he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin, that he no longer should live the rest
of his time in the flesh for the lusts of men, but for the will of God. For we have spent enough
of our past lifetime in doing the will of the Gentiles - when we walked in lewdness, lusts,
drunkenness, revelries, drinking parties, and abominable idolatries. In regard to these, they
think it strange that you do not run with them in the same flood of dissipation, speaking evil of
you. They will give an account to Him who is ready to judge the living and the dead.
(1Pe 4:1-5)
But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there will be false teachers
among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Lord who bought
them, and bring on themselves swift destruction. And many will follow their destructive ways,
because of whom the way of truth will be blasphemed. By covetousness they will exploit you
with deceptive words; for a long time their judgment has not been idle, and their destruction
does not slumber. (2Pe 2:1-3)
But these, like natural brute beasts made to be caught and destroyed, speak evil of the things
they do not understand, and will utterly perish in their own corruption, and will receive the
wages of unrighteousness, as those who count it pleasure to carouse in the daytime. They
are spots and blemishes, carousing in their own deceptions while they feast with you, having
eyes full of adultery and that cannot cease from sin, enticing unstable souls. They have a
heart trained in covetous practices, and are accursed children. They have forsaken the right
way and gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Beor, who loved the wages of
unrighteousness; but he was rebuked for his iniquity: a dumb donkey speaking with a man's
voice restrained the madness of the prophet. These are wells without water, clouds carried by
a tempest, for whom is reserved the blackness of darkness forever. For when they speak
great swelling words of emptiness, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through
lewdness, the ones who have actually escaped from those who live in error. While they
promise them liberty, they themselves are slaves of corruption; for by whom a person is
overcome, by him also he is brought into bondage. For if, after they have escaped the
pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are
again entangled in them and overcome, the latter end is worse for them than the beginning.
(2Pe 2:12-20)
"But I have a few things against you, because you have there those who hold the doctrine of
Balaam, who taught Balak to put a stumbling block before the children of Israel, to eat things
sacrificed to idols, and to commit sexual immorality." (Rev 2:14)
"I know your works, love, service, faith, and your patience; and as for your works, the last are
more than the first. Nevertheless I have a few things against you, because you allow that
woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess, to teach and seduce My servants to commit
sexual immorality and eat things sacrificed to idols. And I gave her time to repent of her
sexual immorality, and she did not repent. Indeed I will cast her into a sickbed, and those who
commit adultery with her into great tribulation, unless they repent of their deeds. I will kill her
children with death, and all the churches shall know that I am He who searches the minds and
hearts. And I will give to each one of you according to your works." (Rev 2:19-23)
"He who overcomes shall inherit all things, and I will be his God and he shall be My son. But
the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and
all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the
second death." (Rev 21:7-8)
