Authored by: Max Morley
BACKGROUND
The University of Louisville has launched “Charting Our Course,” a campaign that
“seek[s] the resources necessary to shape our own destiny, to fulfill our public mission,
to achieve true distinction and to transform the course of learning and inquiry” here at
the University of Louisville. This campaign is to raise $1 billion.
The Student 2020 Plan has mandated that the “university administration, SGA,
and the Alumni Association develop an agreed upon model for student and alumni
relations.” Because of this and our role as the chief advocate of the student voice, the
SGA should establish a student-run campaign to help in achieving the goals of
“Charting Our Course.”
WHEREAS,
The Student 2020 Plan mandates that the “university administration, SGA, and
the Alumni Association develop an agreed upon model for student and alumni
relations”;
WHEREAS,
The Student 2020 Plan describes alumni relations as “a great way to develop a
stronger relationship with past students, potential donors and the ever expanding UofL
community to improve the student experience”;
WHEREAS,
We must incentivize our alumni, especially our recently-graduated, to give back
to the University of Louisville;
WHEREAS,
The University of Louisville’s “Charting Our Course” campaign “has initiated a
bold campaign to raise an unprecedented [$1 billion] in private support by 2013”;
WHEREAS,
All donations to the “Charting Our Course” campaign are tax deductible;
THEREFORE, BE IT HERE BY RESOLVED,
That as a part of the “Building Our Nest” campaign, the UofL SGA and UofL
Administration will name one recently-graduated alumnus (one (1) to ten (10) years out
of UofL as an honorary alumnus. This alumnus will have a walkway on campus named
after them.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED,
That as a part of this honor, street signs will be placed along the walkways of
campus in honor of the honorary alumnus each year.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED,
That the honorary alumnus will be selected by nomination or application that will
be placed on the SGA website under Forms. That the Top Four will narrow the selection
down to two prestigious alumnus. That the Student Senate will select by Popular Vote
the honoree in March.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED,
That upon its passage, a copy of this resolution be sent to President Ramsey,
Provost Willinghanz, Vice President of Advancement, Dean of Students, Vice President
of Student Affairs, and the Vice President of Business Affairs.
