HURRICANE CITY COUNCIL
February 4, 2013
The Hurricane City Council met in regular session on February 4, 2013, with the
following members present:

Meeting called to order.
Pledge Allegiance was led by Cub Scout pack #36.
Hurricane High Lacrosse Team -The Mayor introduced the team to council.
Motion was made by Marshall Ginn and seconded by Gerry Spears to approve minutes of
the January 7, 2013, regular session. Motion carried.
Motion was made by Reggie Billups and seconded by Brian Ellis to approve paying the
bills from the General Fund. Motion carried.
Motion was made by Reggie Billups and seconded by Gerry Spears to approve paying the
bills from the Coal Severance Fund. Motion carried.
Motion was made by Marshall Ginn and seconded by Brian Ellis to pass the Community
Partnership Resolution for $6,000 grant mony. Motion carried.
Motion was made by Reggie Billups and seconded by Gerry Spears to increase the
Recorder’s salary to $600 monthly effective July 1, 2015. Motion carried.
City Manager’s Report
Ben Newhouse informed council that a grant has been submitted for sidewalks at Conner
Street Elementary. Waiting on right-of-ways for the sidewalk project on Harbor Lane at
Hurricane Town Elementary.
Police Chief’s Report
Chief Mullins reported everything good with the department. Thanked council for
allowing the purchase of the new vehicles.
Announcements
Recorder Linda Gibson expressed gratitude to the Street Department for their dedication
of removing snow during the recent storms. Helen Hall from Elite Heights said her
neighborhood was also appreciative.
Mayor announced a new event scheduled for May 4th Main Street Spring Festival. More
info will follow.
Motion was made by Reggie Billups and seconded by Gerry Spears that the meeting be
adjourned. Motion carried.
