The following points may be included in the essay, among others:

Cultural Understanding:

Thando who grew up in South Africa – sensitive to cultural traditions – taught
by Sipho, e.g. the traditions of mourning’
o
Mandisa is insensitive to the cultural norms of her South African family.
o
Mandisa does not understand the problem Sipho has with cremation.
o
Mandisa does not understand the traditions of mourning.
o
Mandisa is ‘happy to be home’.
o
Their African heritage is important to both women – enjoy being called
‘African Princess

Relationship with father figure:

Thando is a dutiful/respectful/subservient daughter – obedient to Sipho –


