Junior staff since 2005 at the University of Montreal Health Center (CHUM), Dr
Rami Younan obtained his MD degree from Laval University, Canada, in 1997. He
then finished his training in general surgery at the same institution in 2002 and went
on to complete a 2-year fellowship in Surgical Oncology at McGill University,
Canada.
His interest for peritoneal carcinomatosis arose while a third year resident when
he performed pharmacokinetic studies of heated CPT-11 and Tomudex in pigs. He
completed a rotation at the Surgical Oncology Unit of the National Cancer Institute
of the Netherlands in Amsterdam with Professor Franz Zoetmulder and Dr Vik
Verwaal. He then spent 6 months at the Istituto di Tumori in Milan, with Professor
Marcello Deraco.
Back in Montreal, his main interests are for radical gastro-intestinal surgery,
including peritoneal carcinomatosis with the creation of the University of Montreal
carcinomatosis group and breast cancer. He is co-investigator of the National
Surgical Breast and Bowel project (NSABP) group.
