WHO WE ARE
The North Carolina Recreational Therapy Association (NCRTA) was incorporated in June 1988 as an
independent, autonomous state professional association. In August 1989, NCRTA became the 6th
chapter affiliate and the first state chapter affiliate of the American Therapeutic Recreation Association.

of the public through service, education, research, student training, the development of professional
standards, and monitoring and responding to trends in health and human services which impact the

WHAT’S RT
Recreational Therapy (RT) is the provision of planned treatment or therapy which uses recreation and
