1. MERIT BADGES
Allow enough time to complete the three-month badges.
Work must be completed by midnight of 18th birthday.
Locate your merit badge cards and place in plastic sleeve pages and put in notebook. You
should scan these and make full page prints for the Eagle Book. Keep the original cards.
2. EAGLE PROJECT
When do you have time to work on this? During school break? Summer? Anytime? So, first
figure out when you want to do this project.
About 3-4 weeks before the start date, finalize what you want to do.
PLANNING AND APPROVAL
A.
Talk to your contact person for whom you will do this project. Find out and check off:
1. What they want done _____
2. Is there a time limit to have it completed_________
3. What kinds of materials would be involved in completion_________
4. Talk about funding the project if it will cost money and how you will get the
materials or the money to buy the materials___________
5. Find out how many people you will likely need to complete the project ________
6. Discuss how long it might take and a possible schedule for executing the
project___________
7. Are there any safety hazards involved and how might you handle a
mishap?________

8. Define how this will benefit the institution you are helping_________
9. Write down in your Eagle Project Notebook the date you discussed this with the
institution, with whom you talked, their position, and get their signature in the
appropriate place in the workbook. ___________

Now talk to your Eagle Advisor/ Scoutmaster about the project. They will ask a lot of
questions and you need to have the answers ahead of time, hopefully. They may ask you
some you have not thought of. They will help you flush out the details of your project.
Write down the date in your project workbook in the appropriate place when you
discussed the project. ___________

Write the planning portion of the project up. You may use the computer and write in
your Eagle Project Workbook, located on your CD . Then separate the pages of the
workbook, and insert the attachments in the appropriate place. ____________

After you have the project written up, get it approved and signed by the Scoutmaster
and Committee Chair in the workbook. They may want you to revise your write up
before they sign.__________

Next, get the signature for the person benefiting from you project. _________

If you now have three signatures in your project notebook, you are ready to seek the
signature of the District. You will be given the phone number to call from your
Scoutmaster, or Eagle Advisor or Advancement Chairman. You should make the call
and ask to meet with him to discuss approval of the project. They will make
arrangements with you and you may need to revise. If your Unit did their jobs, the
District will approve your project without a hitch. Once you have the signature in the
project workbook from the District, and you have all four signatures required, you may
begin the project._____________

Show a rough draft of this to your Eagle Advisor or Scoutmaster for approval. They
should check that every element the Eagle Application asks for is included. You may
need to revise. (The purpose of this essay is to better acquaint the Board with who you
are, the kind of man you are, and what is in your head that cannot be reflected by just a
list of merit badges and a project write-up)_______
If this is approved, write in final and place in notebook behind the Eagle Application.

6. LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION

Use the EagleReference Word file, from your CD.
You need to send these reference letters to the following individuals:
1)
Your parents/guardians.
2)
A member of your religious institution.
3)
Someone from you school.
4)
Your employer. If you are not employed, you do not need this reference.
5)
Two other references. This can be someone in your family (e.g., aunts,
grandparents), close friends of the family, or someone you respect.
These letters are sent directly to Mr Spangler. He will insert these into your Eagle Book
prior to sending it to the Coronado Council Office for review.
YOUR EAGLE NOTEBOOK IS IN ORDER NOW. IF YOU HAVE
FINISHED YOUR MERIT BADGES AND LEADERSHIP POSITION,
YOU ARE READY TO REQUEST A SCOUTMASTER CONFERENCE.

UPON COMPLETION OF YOUR SCOUTMASTER CONFERENCE,
YOUR COMMITTEE CHAIRMAN WILL SEND YOUR COMPLOETED
WORKBOOK TO THE CORONADO COUNCIL OFFICE FOR REVIEW.
YOUR EAGLE BOOK WILL BE REVIEWED BY THE COUNCIL AND
FORWARDED TO MR PARKER, THE KONZA DISTRICT EAGLE
CHAIRMAN. MR PARKER WILL NOTIFY YOU OF THE DATE, TIME
AND LOCATION OF THE BOARD OF REVIEW. LET MR MANUEL
KNOW WHEN THIS IS AS HE IS ALLOWED TO ATTEND THE
BOARD.
YOU WILL ARRIVE AT YOUR BOARD ON TIME, IN YOUR CLASS A,
WITH YOUR MERIT BADGE SASH AND O/A SASH (IF
APPROPRIATE), AND YOUR SCOUT HANDBOOK.
