SENIOR CLINICAL ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN

MEDICAL PHYSICS AND CLINICAL ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT

ASSIGNMENT TO THEATRE

17.5 HOURS PER WEEK

Requirements:

Candidates must, on the latest date for receipt of applications possess either A or B as set out below:-

A

1.National Council for Educational Awards – Diploma in Electronics, or

2.

Technicians Diploma in Electronic Engineering from the College of Technology, Kevin

Street Dublin or

3.

Technician Engineering Diploma – Telecommunication Electronics from the College of

Technology, Kevin Street or

4.

NCEA or DIT Technician Diploma in Applied Physics, Instrumentation,

Mechanical Engineering or a Cognate Discipline or

5.

An equivalent qualification

6.

AND

7.

a minimum of two years relevant experience in an appropriate field of electronics

B

(1) Electronic Servicing (course 224) city and guilds of London Institute, parts 1, 11

and 111 or

(2) Telecommunication Technician Certificate, City and Guilds of London Institute

(course 271) parts 1 , 1 and 111 or

(3) An equivalent qualification

AND

(4) A minimum of three years relevant experience in an appropriate field of electronics.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The holder of the post will provide a technological service primarily to the Operating Theatres but will be required to perform other duties in the Medical Physics and Clinical Engineering

Department as directed by the Principal/Chief Clinical Engineering Technician. (See detailed job summary below).

REPORTING STRUCTURE

The post is in the Department of Medical Physics and Clinical Engineering. The holder of the post will report to the Principal/Chief Clinical Engineering Technician and in turn to the Head of

Medical Physics and Clinical Engineering.

JOB SUMMARY

The holder of the post will be responsible for:-

1.

Providing such records of his/her work as are deemed necessary by the Head of Department or

Principal/Chief Clinical Engineering Technician.

1.

Working as part of a multidisciplinary team of CET's and physicists to provide technical support for electromedical equipment.

Providing technical support to a wide range of electromedical equipment in the Operating

Theatres.

4.

Carrying out planned Preventative Maintenance, Quality Assurance and Safety checks on relevant equipment.

8.

Providing a trouble-shooting service with respect to this equipment.

6 Providing support to clinical staff in the use of equipment.

7.

Performing acceptance testing/commissioning when required.

8.

Monitoring the work of outside contractors as required.

9.

Participating in the process of equipment specification, tendering and selection as required by the

Head of Department or Principal/Chief Clinical Engineering Technician.

10.

Participating as required in education and training programmes.

11.

Working on such special projects as may be assigned by the Principal/Chief Clinical

Engineering Technician or Head of Department from time to time.

In addition:-

12.

He/She will be required to keep currently informed on all aspects of the relevant electromedical equipment, relevant techniques, safety and quality issues and other issues relevant to the duties assigned. This may involve attendance at workshops or courses.

13.

The post holder may be required to participate in an on-call service.

14.

The post holder will from time to time be called upon to perform other duties in the Medical

Physics and Clinical Engineering Department as specified by the Head of Department or

Principal/Chief Clinical Engineering Technician.
