INTRODUCTION TO
2010 TEAM CAPTAIN LEADERSHIP PLAYBOOK
The purpose of your “playbook” is to assist you in developing your
leadership plan for the upcoming season with Coach. You will use
this playbook to develop your capacity to effectively lead as you
work with Coach.
Leadership is bringing out the best in others…
The ultimate goal of leadership is to make those around you better.
Leadership is not really about you. Instead, true leadership is about your
teammates and what you can do to get them to consistently play to their
potential and make smart choices. It is setting them up for success and
being as happy for them when they succeed as when you do yourself.

MAKING A CONNECTION
One of your responsibilities of being a leader as Captain is to ensure that each
player on the team has a connection with at least one of the captains so every
player sees him/her self as a valued member of the larger “team.”
Identify those freshman, sophomore, junior, and senior team mates with which you
have a personal connection. Each captain should complete this activity and then
compare with one another.
