EXPERIENCE
PROFESSOR, Agricultural University of Norway (UMB), Department of Plant and
Environmental Sciences (IPM) 1999 – present. Responsible for courses in agricultural
entomology at the University. Main research areas: Agromyzidae, polyphagous predators and
slugs as pests.
Professor II (20%), Norwegian Institute for Agricultural and Environmental Research, Plant
Health and Plant Protection Division (Norwegian Crop Research Institute, Plant Protection
Centre until 31 December 2005), 1 Jan 2005 – 31 Dec 2009. Responsible for project on slugs,
and participating in several other projects, including IPM in Vietnam.
RESEARCH SCIENTIST, Department of Entomology and Nematology, Norwegian Plant
Protection Institute, 1984 - 1998 (changed name to "The Norwegian Crop Research Institute,
Plant Protection Centre" on 1 Jan 1995). Responsible for research, advisory service and
insecticide testing in field crops, and teaching students at the Norwegian Agricultural
University in field crop insect pests. Main research areas: polyphagous predators (carabids
and staphylinids) attacking pest insects (species composition, predation experiments,
overwintering, effect of insecticides) and Chromatomyia fuscula (Diptera, Agromyzidae) as a
pest in cereals (life cycle, host plant preferences, injury level, effect of insecticides).

staphylinids and spiders) attacking Cabbage Root Fly (Delia radicum) and Turnip Root Fly

From August 1984 - 2007, as a part of my teaching in agricultural entomology at the
Agricultural University of Norway, I adviced 26 Master students (at different Universities).
SABATHICAL YEAR
In 1994 I stayed at Université Laval, Québec, Canada for 10 months in the laboratory of
Professor Jeremy N. McNeil.
In 2003 I stayed at Hanoi Agricultural University, Hanoi, Vietnam for 3 months in the
