Values Exercise and Listing

Values Exercise and Listing
Defining the core values of your organization is an important step in setting the tone for
all growth initiatives you undertake. Your values are the foundation for your future and
are integrally related to your mission, vision, and objectives. Your values are the things
you care about and believe in, as well as are committed to and are willing to be held
accountable for.
The values exercise and listing found on page two is helpful in gaining alignment
among leaders and managers and is important for highlighting core values differences
in your business.
To perform this exercise, request that each of your key leaders take the values listing on
page two and select their top 5 values in order of priority (1 through 5). Encourage the
participants to add a value that is dear to them if it is not listed.
Then, take those inputs and select your organizational core values in order of priority,
allowing no more than 10 total values to “make the cut.” This exercise can be conducted
as homework for a firm retreat and turned in prior so that you have time to compile.
Use the ConvergenceCoaching, LLC Values Compilation Grid tool to speed the process.
Once you’ve compiled your firm’s values, we encourage you to elect a member of the
team to then write a one or two line definition to each value selected and pass it around
to gain group approval. This really helps to further communicate what it is you care
about, believe in, are committed to and are willing to be held accountable for. This type
of document also makes for a great page of content on your web site, a tastefully
designed and framed poster for your lobby, and/or content for your firm brochure.
