Purpose (Why): To connect the ideas of
Marxism to what happened with the
Bolsheviks, how they influenced Lenin,
and how they impacted the future

background knowledge.

During
Purpose (Why): To give students the
opportunity to work in groups, move
around the room, and exchange ideas. To
allow for critical thinking and
summarizing of information.
Strategy (What): Group reading and
discussion. Ask students to complete
graphic organizer during group sharing
with class. Present PowerPoint
presentation to class and ask groups to
share as their topics arise.
Procedure (How): Give out pieces of
paper to each student with group’s term on
it that they will research together. Show
diagram of group meet spots and ask
students to go to these spots in the
classroom. Give out graphic organizers to
each student to fill in only his/her group’s
section. Give each group an article to read
on its subject. Have one student in each
group read the article aloud to the rest of
the group. Ask that students discuss main
points and record them in their graphic
organizers.

After
Purpose (Why): Assess what students
understood from the combination of their
own research, the PowerPoint presentation,
and discussion. I asked identifying
questions at the end to jog students’
memories and lock key points in their
minds.
Strategy (What): Students answer three
questions: “What I learned…” “What I
found most interesting…” What I still
need information about…” I also asked
questions to the class that students raised
their hands to answer about the key points
of the content.
Procedure (How): Pass out worksheets
with three questions for students to answer
and collect at the end of class. I asked
questions while students answered the
worksheet questions.
Assessment:
Students wrote answers to questions about
their learning. (Turned into teacher)
