TOWSON, Md. – Junior Miles Batty of nationally-ranked Brigham Young University and senior Bobby
Torphy of Muhlenberg College headline the 2011 Capital One Academic AllAmerica® Men’s Track &
Field/Cross Country Teams, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Batty and Torphy have been chosen as the winners of the Academic AllAmerica® of the Year award in the University and College Divisions, respectively.
A Neuroscience and Exercise Science major with a 3.95 G.P.A., Batty was the NCAA Division I champion in the indoor mile. A member of the NCAA champion indoor distance medley relay team, he helped BYU finish third at the NCAA indoor championship meet. Honored as the NCAA Indoor Athlete of the Year, he was the
Mountain West Conference champion in the indoor mile and the distance medley relay team. Named as the
Mountain West Indoor Track Male Athlete of the Year, he won the MWC title in the 1500-meter outdoor run.
Batty earned All-American honors when he finished seventh in the 1500-meter run at the NCAA Outdoor
Championship Meet.
The Mountain West individual cross country champion, he was honored as the Mountain West Cross
Country Male Athlete of the Year. A three-time choice as the MWC Runner of the Week, the Sandy, Utah native ran second at the NCAA Mountain Regional Meet. At the NCAA Championship Meet, he finished 15 th .
A Biochemistry major with a 4.00 G.P.A., Torphy received an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship and was a two-time NCAA Elite 88 Award winner for Muhlenberg College. A two-time NCAA qualifier in both cross country and track, the native of Schnecksville, Pa. earned Division III AllAmerica honors on the Mules’ fourth place Distance Medley Relay team. He was a two-time all-region performer in cross country.
A 15-time Centennial Conference track & field medalist who earned four gold medals, Torphy set the school indoor 800-meters record and was a member of the record-breaking mile, 4x800 and Distance Medley relay teams. The Muhlenberg College Class of 2011 Valedictorian, he served a Cardiothoracic surgery internship and was a volunteer at the Lehigh Valley Hospital. He will attend medical school at the University of
North Carolina Chapel Hill.
Batty is joined on the Capital One Academic AllAmerica® Men’s Track & Field/Cross Country University
Division first team by a trio of repeat first team selections, seniors Philip Adam of Rice University, Darius
Law of Charlotte and Lee Ellis Moore of Mississippi. Adam is a three-time member of the Academic All-
Ame rica® first team. Law was also a second team pick in 2009 while Moore earned third team notice in 2009.
Moving up from the second team are seniors Peter Bolgert of Marquette and Christopher Lemon of
Dayton while juniors Bjorn Barrefors of Nebraska and Nathan Corder of Alabama advanced from the 2010 third team.
Stanford University was the only school to place three student-athletes on the Capital One Academic All-
America® Men’s Track & Field/Cross Country University Division first team. Senior Elliott Heath, junior Chris
Derrick , and junior Miles Unterreiner represented Stanford on the first team. Seniors Tim Burns of Loyola
(Md.), Ryan Foster of Penn State, senior David Klech of Oregon and senior Scott Roth of Washington complete the Capital One Academic AllAmerica® University Division first team.

The first three-time Conference USA decathlon champion, Adam had a 3.96 G.P.A. in Economics and
Policy Studies with a Business minor. The Santa Maria, Cal. native claimed the 2011 C-USA decathlon title for Rice with an all-time best of 7,514 points. Adams placed 21 st in the decathlon at the 2011 NCAA Division I
Men’s Track & Field championships. The 2011 NCAA Division I Elite 88 Award winner, he graduated Magna
Cum Laude and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa.
One of three finalists for the NCAA’s Walter Byers Scholarship, Law has a 4.0 G.P.A. in Management at
Charlotte. The Most Outstanding Performer Award winner at the 2011 Atlantic 10 Men’s Indoor Track & Field
Meet, he claimed three titles. A native of Raleigh, N.C., he won four Atlantic-10 outdoor titles, lifting his career total to 26, a school record.
The 2011 Southeastern Conference champion in the 400-meter hurdles champion and an All-American,
Moore earned a 3.94 G.P.A. majoring in Biology with a minor in Chemistry at Mississippi. A native of Cordova,
Tenn., Moore is a two-time All-American and also anchored the nationally-ranked 4x400-meter relay team for
Ole Miss. Honored as the 2011 SEC Track & Field Scholar-Athlete of the Year, he graduated in May and will attend medical school with three prestigious scholarships. He also received the Taylor Medal, the highest academic honor an Ole Miss student can achieve.
A Mathematics and Physics major with a 3.98 G.P.A., Bolgert ranked among Marquette’s top five in every cross country race this year. A native of Sheboygan, Wis., he placed 46 th at the BIG EAST Cross Country
Championships. Bolgert ran the 1,200-meter leg of the distance medley relay that notched the second best time in school history at the 2011 BIG EAST Indoor Meet. A four-time BIG EAST All-Academic selection, he ranks in the top six at Marquette in the outdoor 1,500 and the steeplechase.
The 2009 Atlantic 10 Conference cross country champion and the runner-up in 2010, Lemon had a 3.93
G.P.A. with an Education and Spanish double major at Dayton. A two-time Atlantic 10 Student-Athlete of the
Year Award winner, the Bowling Green, Ohio native became the first Flyer to advance to the NCAA Men’s
Cross Country Championships twice. He graduated with eight of the top 10 8K times at Dayton, and owns school records in the 10K, 3,000, 5,000 and 10,000-meter runs. Lemon is teaching in Mexico on a Fulbright
Grant and is also a John W. Berry Scholar.
An NCAA Elite 88 Award winner at the 2010 Indoor Track & Field Championships, Barrefors is a
Computer Science major with a 3.76 G.P.A. at Nebraska. A native of Stockholm, Sweden, he won the 2011
Big 12 Conference heptathlon title for the Huskers and earned second team All-America honors in the event.
He also placed 12 th in the 2011 NCAA decathlon with a career-high 7,651 points. The Co-President of the
Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, he was a 2010 recipient of the HERO Leadership Award.
A Mathematics major with a 4.00 G.P.A., Corder was the winner of the Elite 88 Award at the 2010 NCAA
Cross Country Championship Meet for Alabama. An All-American runner, he helped the Crimson Tide to an
11 th place finish at the NCAA championships. The Pickerington, Ohio native was a member of two
Southeastern Conference championship teams. A three-time SEC All-Academic honoree, he has the most community service hours for any Crimson Tide male athlete. Corder has served as Ala bama’s SAAC Vice
President and Secretary/Treasurer.
The 2010 United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Scholar
Athlete of the Year for cross country, Derrick is an Economics major with a 3.84 G.P.A. at Stanford. The 2010
Pacific-10 Conference champion in the 5,000 and 10,000-meter runs, he is a 10-time All-American, placing seventh, third and fifth at the NCAA Men’s Cross Country Championships. A native of Naperville, Ill., he was fourth in both the 5,000 and 10,000-meters at the 2011 NCAA Outdoor Meet. The former owner of the
American Junior record in the 5,000-meter run is a three-time Pac-10 All-Academic performer.

The 2011 NCAA Indoor Track & Field 3,000-meter champion, Heath has a 3.57 G.P.A. with a Mechanical
Engineering major at Stanford. A native of Winona, Minn., he was a seven-time All-American for the Cardinal and set the school’s indoor record in the 5,000 meters at the 2011 Husky Classic. Heath earned second team
All-America honors at the 2011 NCAA Outdoor Meet. Named as the 2010 Pac-10 Cross Country Athlete of the Year, he ranks fourth all-time in both the 3,000-meter indoor run and 5,000-meter outdoor run.
The Elite 88 Award winner at the 2011 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships, Unterreiner is a
History major at Stanford with a perfect 4.00 G.P.A. The Gig Harbor, Wash., native placed 15 th in the 5,000meters at the NCAA Indoor Meet to earn second-team All-America honors. He also captured the Mountain
Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) 5,000-meter championship. Unterreiner placed ninth at the 2010 Pac-10
Cross Country championships to earn second team All-Pac-10 honors.
A Mechanical Engineeri ng major with a perfect 4.00 G.P.A., Burns earned Loyola’s Medal of Merit for combining athletic and academic success. A native of Randolph, N.J., he was also awarded Loyola’s
Engineering Department medal. A three-time Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference All-Academic pick, Burns placed 55 th at the MAAC Championship and 83 rd at the IC4A/ECAC Cross Country Championship last fall.
A three-time Big Ten Conference champion in the 800-meter indoor race, Foster is an Economics major at
Penn State with a 3.54 G.P.A. A native of Tasmania, Australia, he finished third in the one mile-run at the
NCAA Indoor Championship. He was named the USTFCCCA Mid-Atlantic Region Track Athlete of the Year during an indoor season that included running the fastest 1,000-meter time recorded by a collegian and a school record 3:58.49 in the one-mile run for the Nittany Lions. He also placed second in the 1,500 meters at the Big Ten Outdoor Meet.
The Pacific-10 Conference runner-up while competing in only his second decathlon at Oregon, Klech has a 3.96 G.P.A. with a major in Psychology. A native of San Ramon, Cal., he also finished third in the long jump and placed fifth in the 110-meter hurdles to help the Ducks win their fifth straight Pac-10 championship. An
NCAA All-American in the heptathlon, Klech had the second highest point total in Oregon history to finish sixth at the national meet.
A three-time NCAA Division I pole vault champion at Washington, Roth is a Biology major with a 3.35
G.P.A. A native of Granite Bay, Cal., he won the 2011 NCAA outdoor pole vault title after finishing second in
2009 and third in 2010. He also won the 2010 and 2011 NCAA indoor pole vault titles and was a six-time
USTFCCCA All-American. Roth cleared 18-feet, 9 1/4-inches as a senior, the top height cleared by an
American during the 2011 outdoor season.
The Capital One Academic AllAmerica® University Division first team has four student-athletes with a perfect 4.00 G.P.A. The fifteen members of the first team have an average G.P.A. of 3.85.
Torphy and senior Simon Holzapfel of Tusculum are three-time selections on the Capital One Academic
AllAmerica® Men’s Track & Field College Division first team. They both earned first team honors in 2010 and third team notice in 2009.
Torphy and Holzapfel are two of five repeat first team selections from 2010. Seniors Loren Ahonen of
Western State, John Donkersloot of Hope and Orolando Duffus of Saint Augustine’s were also named to the first team for the second year in a row.
Moving up from the second team to the Capital One Academic AllAmerica® Men’s Track & Field College
Division first team are senior Cory Anderson of Taylor, junior Kale Booher of Ohio Wesleyan, senior Sean
Daly of Oneonta State, senior Garrett Harms of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and senior Josh Wilks of
Seton Hill. Harms was also a third team selection in 2009.

Junior Shawn Boss of Central Missouri, senior Tony Dipre of Allegheny and senior Aaron Swift of
Colorado School of Mines moved up from the third team.
Seniors Derek Bischak of Rose-Hulman, Mike Dempsey of Rochester Institute of Technology, Seth
Einterz of Wabash, and Brian Holik of Angelo State combine with junior Paul Yerhot of Wisconsin-LaCrosse round out the Capital One Academic AllAmerica® Men’s Track & Field College Division first team.
The two-time South Atlantic Conference Runner of the Year, Holzapfel owns a perfect 4.00 G.P.A. as a
Sports Science major at Tusculum. The Nuremberg, Germany native rolled up 16 individual titles in his career, including six in 2010 while competing in cross country for the Pioneers. A three-time NCAA Division II
All-Southeast Region and All-SAC first team selection, he closed out his career with a streak of 21 consecutive top 10 finishes, including a 10 th place finish in his final meet, the NCAA Southeast Regional. The
2011 Tusculum President’s Award recipient also served as SAAC Vice President and volunteered at a local nursing home and a local elementary school.
A seven-time NCAA Division II All-American, Ahonen graduated Magna Cum Laude from Western State with a degree in Politics and Governament and a 3.90 G.P.A. The native of Temperance, Mich. was an All-
Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference pick in two events and he qualified for the NCAA national meet in the steeplechase. Ahonen was one of eight graduating seniors to receive Western State’s Alumni Award for
Excellence. He was a two-time Academic All-RMAC first team selection in track.
A three-time NCAA Division III All-American in the high jump, Donkersloot has a 3.90 G.P.A. in Chemistry with a minor in Philosophy at Hope College. A native of Zeeland, Mich., he placed third at the NCAA meet twice and fourth in 2011 for the Flying Dutchmen. The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) high jump champion was honored as Hope’s Outstanding Senior Male Athlete. An accomplished, prizewinning pianist, he is a member of Phi Beta Kappa.
Named as the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Track & Field Most Valuable Field
Performer three times, Duffus is a Business Administration major at Saint Augustine’s with a 3.92 G.P.A. The
St. Catherine, Jamaica native was a six-time NCAA Division II All-American for the Falcons and finished fourth in the triple jump at the 2011 NCAA Indoor Meet. The 2010 CIAA Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year, he led Saint Augustine’s to the 2010 NCAA Division II Outdoor championship in addition to the 2011 CIAA Indoor and Outdoor titles.
A two-sport athlete in track and football who battled back from an injury, Anderson is a Finance major at
Taylor University with a perfect 4.00 G.P.A. The Converse, Ind. native was a two-time NAIA national qualifier in the 110-meter high hurdles and also played running back for the Troja ns’ football team. An NAIA Scholar
Athlete and Mid-States Football Association (MSFA) All-Academic selection, Anderson is taking all the required courses to sit on the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) exam.
While helping Ohio Wesleyan qualify for its first NCAA Division III Cross Country meet since 1979, Booher is a History major with a 3.98 G.P.A. and minors in Sports Science and Spanish. The Covington, Ohio native ran sixth at the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) cross country meet and took 19 th at the NCAA Great
Lakes Regional. On the track, he was a member of the NCAC indoor champion distance medley relay team and won the All-Ohio Division III 3,000-meter steeplechase, qualifying for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Meet.

A Music Industry major with a minor in English and a 3.85 G.P.A., Daly was a member of the 2009 NCAA
Division III Indoor national champion 1,600-meter relay team at Oneonta State. A native of Weedsport, N.Y., he ran on the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) and State University of New York Athletic
Conference (SUNYAC) indoor champion 1,600-meter relay teams for the Red Dragons. A member of Chi
Alpha Sigma, he has been accepted to Law School at Villanova.
A two-time New York Collegiate Track Conference (NYCTC) decathlon champion, Harms has a 3.91
G.P.A. in the challenging double major of Nuclear Engineering and Mechanical Engineering at Rennselaer
Polytechnic Institute. The Newburyport, Mass. native earned NCAA Division III All-America honors in the decathlon. He also won the 2011 Liberty League javelin title while leading the Engineers to their third straight league championship. He also captured four events while leading RPI to the NYCTC titles. Harms has received the Dyce Prize and Founders Award of Excellence. He is also a member of the Tau Beta Pi
Engineering and Alpha Nu Sigma Honor Societies.
The Elite 88 Academic Award winner at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships in
2010, Wilks has a 3.87 G.P.A. while majoring in Mathematics, Actuary Science and Education at Seton Hill.
The Geneva, Ohio native was named as the 2011 West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WVIAC)
Runner of the Year after claiming the 800meter title and running the anchor leg on the Griffins’ champion
4x400 meter relay team. He was a two-time NCAA All-American in the 800 and owns Seton Hill outdoor records in the 200, 400 and 800-meter runs.
A Computer Information Systems major with a 4.00 G.P.A. at Central Missouri, Boss was the NCAA Elite
88 Award winner at the NCAA Division II Indoor Track Meet in 2011. The native of Oak Grove, Mo. earned All-
America honors placing sixth in the heptathlon at the 2011 NCAA Indoor Meet for the Mules. He was also the runner-up in the heptathlon at the Missouri Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) Indoor Championship.
A four-time NCAA Division III All-American in cross country and track at Allegheny, Dipre owns a 3.79
G.P.A. while majoring in Neuroscience and Religious Studies. The Twinsburg, Ohio native anchored the winning distance medley relay team at the 2011 NCAA Division III Indoor Championships. The 2011 North
Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) indoor mile champion, he helped the Gators earn three top 10 finishes at the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships. Dipre was named the 2010 NCAC Outdoor Distance
Runner of the Year and USTFCCCA Mideast Region Track Athlete of the Year.
The Elite 88 Award winner at the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships in 2010, Swift graduated from Colorado School of Mines with a 3.79 G.P.A. as a Mechanical Engineering major. The
Colorado Springs, Col. native was a two-time NCAA Division II All-American in cross country and a part of four Orediggers’ squads that placed in the top 10 at the national meet. He capped off an impressive senior year with a runner-up finish at the 2010 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Cross Country championships and a fourth place effort at the NCAA Central Regional.
The 2011 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Indoor Track Athlete of the Year, Bischak has a 3.88 G.P.A. with a double major in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering at Rose-Hulman. The Angola, Ind. native was a fourtime HCAC champion and part of four straight Fighting Engineers’ HCAC championship teams. An NCAA Division III national qualifier in the indoor mile and the outdoor 1,500-meters run, Bischak has enjoyed a career in United States Auto Club (USAC) racing. He had a fourth place showing in the 2007
Rumble in Fort Wayne won by NASCAR champion Tony Stewart.
A four-time NCAA Division III All-American in the pole vault over the last two seasons at Rochester
Institute of Technology, Dempsey is an Electrical and Mechanical Engineering major with a 3.76 G.P.A. A native of Rochester, N.Y., he was the runner-up at both the 2010 NCAA Division III Indoor and Outdoor Track
& Field Championships. A two-time winner at the prestigious Penn Relays, he was honored as the
USTFCCCA Atlantic Region and Empire 8 Field Athlete of the Year in 2010.

An NCAA Division III All-American in both track and cross country at Wabash College, Einterz has a 3.97
G.P.A with a major in Philosophy and a minor in Physics. A native of Zionsville, Ind., he placed third in the
5,000-meter run at the 2011 NCAA Outdoor Meet and finished 20 th at the 2010 NCAA Cross Country
Championship Meet. Einterz won the 5,000 meter run and took second place in the 3,000-meter run to help the Little Giants win the 2011 North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Indoor Track & Field championship.
He also helped Wabash win the 2011 NCAC Outdoor title by placing in the 5,000 and 10,000-meter runs.
The winner of the Elite 88 Award winner at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships,
Holik is an Exercise Science major with a 3.97 G.P.A. who started graduate school in May. The Wall, Texas native was a six-time All-American and the 2011 Lone Star Conference (LSC) champion in the 400-meter hurdles. He was also a member of the Rams’ LSC runner-up 4x400 meter relay team. Holim was also named as the 2010 LSC Men’s Track & Field Academic Athlete of the Year.
A member of the 2011 NCAA Division III indoor champion 4x400 meter relay team for Wisconsin-
LaCrosse, Yerhot has a double major in Biology and Pre-Physical Therapy with a minor in Chemistry and a
3.93 G.P.A. A native of Chaska, Minn., he also placed seventh in the 400-meter run and is a five-time NCAA
All-American. He is a two-time Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) 400 champion and has been a member of two conference championship relay teams.
