NHS Athens
Athens is an access management system used by the NHS to give access to
online resources. You can use your Athens username and password to
access the electronic resources paid for by the NHS nationally or locally.
To register for an Athens account and to access the NHS resources, go to
Journals and Databases at www.library.nhs.uk. Registration is best done
from an NHS computer.
Complete the online form. (Note for students: it is important that you type your
placement end date in the format DD/MM/YYYY). When you have submitted
the form, an e-mail will be sent to the e-mail address you gave on the form.
You MUST open the e-mail and click on the link within the message to create
your own password. Your Athens password is case sensitive so make sure
you type it in carefully.
Once you have your username and password, you can access resources
using your Athens account. Log in by clicking on Sign in to NHS Athens from
www.library.nhs.uk. Remember, although a resource uses Athens
Authentication, you won’t have access to that resource unless we have paid
for it!
Select ‘My Library’ under Your Health Information
Resources to access our Journals A-Z list.
Scroll further down the page for links to all your NHS Athens resources now
often called OpenAthens as described on pages 3-4.
