SPANISH ESSAY CORRECTION CODES:
The following essay correction codes will be used on all written assignments, essays, quizzes and tests.
It is your responsibility to refer to these codes to understand and correct any mistakes for additional
correction points upon availability.
C
Capitalization error. A part of speech has been assigned the wrong case.
CW
Combine words.
GA
Does not AGREE with the GENDER of the noun or pronoun it is modifying.
L
A lexical or dictionary error. When you chose the wrong meaning for a word from the dictionary.
NA
Does not AGREE in NUMBER with the noun or pronoun it is modifying.
NS
Rewrite the sentence completely. A completely new sentence structure is needed to convey proper
meaning. Re-work the sentence.
P
Punctuation
R
If written as a reflexive sentence, change to non-reflexive or vice versa. The code may also
indicate the incorrect use of a reflexive pronoun.
SP
Spelling error.
SV
Subject verb agreement. The subject of the sentence does not agree with the conjugated verb.
NO
There is no such word in the Spanish language. This includes the use of English words where the
Spanish version is known. No Spanglish please.
WO
Any error involving word order.
X
One or more words are missing and must be inserted.

Double lines through a word indicate that it is not necessary and must be deleted.
?
A question mark adjacent to a word, clause, or sentence that is underlined indicates that the
reviewer could not understand the passage whatsoever. See the teacher for help or clarification.
VT
The verb has been placed into the wrong tense. Conjugated incorrectly
WC
Word choice is incorrect. Use a different word.
WV
Wrong verb. Use a different verb. Possibly one with a similar meaning.
YW
Use your own vocabulary. Do not use words you don’t understand. Use the vocabulary you have.
