PSI CHI THON CHAIR APPLICATION FOR THON 2016
On a separate document, please type your name, e-mail, expected graduation date, and
the title of the positions you are interested in. You may apply for no more than three
positions. Answer all of the general questions and then answer all questions for each
position you are interested in applying for.
All applications are due back to Terra ( terraleetomasic@gmail.com ) by April 7th, 2015
at 5:00pm.
The current committee will review applications and make final selections by April 21th,
2014.
General Questions: - Answer these first
o Describe your past experiences with THON.
o Describe other leadership positions held at Penn State, if applicable.
o What is your motivation for choosing to join Psi Chi THON?
o Please elaborate on your interpersonal skills and other strengths.
o How comfortable would you be with talking to our Four Diamonds
Family, the Kellisons, and the general members of Psi Chi?
o Explain any schedule limitations that would affect your commitment to Psi
Chi THON.
Next, answer the position-specific questions for up to three positions.
Psi Chi THON Chair
The THON Chair’s primary responsibility is to oversee all THON-related activities and
events within Psi Chi. The THON Chair is required to attend all University-hosted THON
Chair meetings, Psi Chi-specific THON meetings, and ensure that the other committee
members complete all THON-related paperwork on time. The THON Chair is expected
to maintain contact with the Four Diamonds Family, oversee THON Weekend, meet
regularly with Psi Chi THON members, and document Psi Chi THON activity.


o How do you plan to orchestrate Psi Chi THON meetings?
o Describe your organizational, interpersonal, and managerial skills.
o Briefly explain any ideas you have for Psi Chi THON 2016.
Family Relations
Psi Chi has been paired with the Kellisons for four years now. Our THON child, Brittany
Kellison, passed away in 2012. However, Brittany is still very alive in the hearts of her
family and friends. The Kellisons are an amazing family and have made this THON year
an unforgettable experience for all of us.
Psi Chi THON Family Relations Chair
The Psi Chi THON Family Relations Chair is the Kellison’s primary contact with Psi
Chi. They are responsible for maintaining regular contact with the Kellisons, planning
meetups, filling out bi-weekly reports, attending University-hosted Adopt-A-Family
(AAF) workshops, and maintaining a family fund for gifts and local excursions. An ideal
Family Relations Chair will possess strong interpersonal and organizational skills.


o Do you have previous experience with a THON family? Explain.
o Please share some ideas you have for engaging our family and
encouraging general Psi Chi member involvement.
o What plans do you have for maintaining a family fund?
Psi Chi THON Communications Chair
The Psi Chi THON Communications Chair will be a new position for THON 2015. This
person will be expected to keep general Psi Chi members up to date on Psi Chi’s
involvement with THON. The Psi Chi THON Communications Chair will be responsible
for maintaining the Psi Chi listserv, speaking at the bi-weekly Psi Chi meetings, and
keeping up with our Facebook group - PSU Psi Chi FTK. The Communications Chair
must maintain in contact with Psi Chi alumni via email or our Facebook group. Strong
technological, interpersonal, and organizational skills are desirable for a person in this
position.


of communication.
o What plans do you have to encourage general Psi Chi member
involvement in THON activities?
o Describe any skills/certifications/experiences you possess related to this

Fundraising - 4 positions
In the past, fundraising for THON through Psi Chi has been rewarding beyond
words. We hope that the Psi Chi THON 2016 Chairs share our passion to raise money
FTK and BEAT CANCER! Fundraising chairs must be willing to help their fellow
fundraising chairs in completing tasks, as not all fundraising opportunities are available
all year long.
Psi Chi THON Canning/Canvassing Chair
The Psi Chi THON Canning/Canvassing Chair is responsible for everything involving
canning and canvassing. They are expected to plan and register canning and canvassing
trips, complete post-trip reports, acquire supplies from the THON office, drop off funds
raised on trips, and provide reminders for upcoming safety workshops and fundraising
trips.


o Why would you like to be the Canning/Canvassing Chair?
o Describe any past canning/canvassing experiences.
o What ideas do you have for planning canning/canvassing trips?
o How will you encourage general Psi Chi member participation in
canning/canvassing trips?
Psi Chi THONvelopes/THONline Chair
The Psi Chi THONvelopes/THONline Chair is responsible for everything involving
THONvelopes and THONline. They are expected to maintain our Peer-to-Peer giving
page, retrieve THONvelope materials from the THON office, provide reminders of
important dates regarding THONvelopes, construct THONvelope inserts, and organize a
THONvelope decorating session. This person must also help the Corporate and Alumni
Relations Chair maintain a list of Psi Chi alumni and potential annual
THONvelope/THONline donors.


o Describe any past THONvelopes/THONline experiences.
o What ideas do you have for improving general Psi Chi member
participation in THONline/THONvelope activities
o What are your plans for promoting Psi Chi THON to potential donors, and
motivating them to donate to THON.
Psi Chi THON Corporate and Alumni Relations Chair
The Psi Chi THON Corporate and Alumni Relations Chair will be the primary contact for
businesses and Psi Chi alumni that wish to donate to THON through Psi Chi. This person
is expected to maintain a list of businesses and alumni who have donated, keep a list of
potential donors, sending THON information packets, and help organize fundraising
activities involving local businesses.

Position-Specific Questions:
o Why would you like to be the Corporate and Alumni Relations Chair?
o Describe any past fundraising experiences.
o What are your ideas for connecting with alumni and persuading businesses
to donate?
o How would you go about explaining THON to a curious potential donor?
Psi Chi THON Alternative Fundraisers Chair
The Psi Chi THON Alternative Fundraisers Chair will plan and execute any fundraiser
that does fall within the scope of the above three Chair’s responsibilities. This person is
expected to plan creative fundraisers, submit their ideas to THINK (THON Information
Network), gather information regarding specific fundraisers, obtain necessary
permissions and licenses to conduct alternative fundraisers, and recruit help from general
Psi Chi members in running events.


o Describe any past fundraising and event planning experience
o List ideas you have for alternative fundraisers.
o How comfortable would you be with speaking to business owners or Penn
State employees in order to plan out fundraisers?
o How you would advertise an alternative fundraiser to general Psi Chi
members, Penn State students/faculty/staff, and State College residents?
