Wiltshire School Games 2016- Gymnastics
Age Group
KS3 open to boys and girls
Eligibility
Selected competitors must be on the register of the school
they represent.
KS3 Beginners - Teams of 4 to 6 (top 4 results count)
KS 3 Intermediate – Teams of 4 to 6 (top 4 results count)
KS 3 Advanced – Teams of 4 to 6 (top 4 results count)
Team Size
Categories:
1. Beginners – Floor and Vault - For pupils who are part of
a school club only
2. Intermediate - Floor and Vault - For pupils who are part
of a school club or practice less than 4 hours within an
outside club (recreationally)
3. Advanced - Floor and Vault - For pupils who are part of
an outside club and practice for over 4 hours.
Students can enter the Advanced Category if they train less than
stated hours but must acknowledge the different standard they
will compete against.
EVENT FORMAT & RULES
Competition Rules
Criteria:
 2 disciplines, floor and vault, to be completed by each
competitor.
 Music optional for floor routine advanced (music to be
supplied on CD on the day of the competition).
 Intermediate floor sequences to last no longer than 60
seconds.
 Floor area will be 6m x 12m (for Elite Competition
12m x 12m)
 Gymnasts will be given approximately 10 minutes to
practise their routines and vaults after which the
competition will begin. Each gymnast will have the
opportunity to perform their floor routine once and
vault twice.
Scoring:
All routines will be marked out of 10.00
Floor Sequence
Beginners:
Set elements to be performed in the specific order as set out
below.
1 Forward roll to stand
2 Stretched jump with half turn
3 Roll back to show and hold shoulder stand (2 secs)
4 Lower under control to back lie, push up to bridge and hold
(2 secs)
5 Lower to back lie, sit up to show straddle sit, teddy bear roll
x2
6 Join legs together to show pike sit, rill back to show dish
shape and hold (2 secs), roll to arch and hold (2 secs)
7 Push up to front support (hold 2 secs), jump feet in and up to
stand.
8 Lunge forwards into handstand(not held) and return to stand
9 Lift one leg to the rear and show arabesque (hold 2 secs)
10 Join feet together, swing arms upwards into a tuck jump,
show and hold landing position to finish.
Intermediate:
Set routine to be performed as specified as below
1. Forward roll immediate half turn jump immediate
backwards roll to finish in front support position
2. Choice of bridge or splits held for 2 secs
3. Shoulder stand (arms by ears) roll to stand without
hand support
4. Handstand forward roll (bent or straight arms)
5. Half spin
6. Chasse cat leap chasse hurdle step to two feet
immediate full turn jump.
7. Step forwards and pivot turn on two feet to face the
other direction.
8. Round off immediate star jump
Advanced
Set elements to be performed in any order to music (girls only
– boys to perform without music). The gymnast should link the
elements using dance and start and finish in a pose.
Gymnast should link the elements using dance and start and
finish in a pose. Try to use as much of the floor area as possible
and show different levels and direction of movement. The
routine should last between 60-90 secs. All music must be
supplied on a cd marked with the gymnast’s name. Other
music formats cannot be accommodated and the gymnast
will be required to perform without music.
1. Round off – flic – straddle jump
2. Full spin
3. Chasse split leap – chasse W hop (girls) or forward roll
immediate full turn jump (boys)
4. Forwards or backwards walkover
5. Backwards roll to handstand (bent or straight arms)
6. Handstand full pirouette (optional leg position)
7. Dive cartwheel
8. Handspring to one or two feet
9. Split (girls) or pike lever (boys) held 2 secs
Vault
At all levels gymnasts to perform a vault from the options
below. All gymnasts will receive 2 attempts, the best score to
count.
Beginners: both vaults marked out of 10
Squat on, stretched jump off or Squat on, star jump off
Intermediate: - both vaults marked out of 10
Squat through or straddle over
Intermediates may opt to perform one of the beginners
vaults however these will only be marked out of 8.50 in the
intermediate category
Advanced: - marked out of 10
Handspring
If a gymnast approaches the vault but stops before touching
the springboard or vault they may have another attempt but
will incur a 1.00 mark deduction. A maximum of 3 attempts
may be taken as long as the gymnast has not touched any of
the vaulting equipment on the aborted attempt. A 4th
attempt is not permitted whether the gymnast has
performed a successful vault or not.
Safety:
Before attempting any of the routines, pupils should have
been taught the various skills in a safe and progressive way.
Gymnasts must be supervised by teachers/helpers at all times
(i.e. during warm up, whilst competing and whilst waiting for
scores to be formulated)
Competition Rules:
Competition Rules are attached. Please make sure that these are read carefully before
the competition.
Please note the classifications for each category which will enable you to enter your
pupils into the correct category.
Please also note that if pupils introduce different movements into their routine,
they will not be marked on these and possibly loose marks.
Extra skills will not be counted but will be deducted.
