There was a meeting of the LSU Media Senate held on Tuesday

10th November 2015.

Location: Sky Room.

Invitees: Bryn Wilkes (VP: Media), Dannie Jones (Assistant Head of Media), Dan Leedham (Head of

Online), Paul Johnston (LCR Station Manager), Katie Wilson (Label Editor), Jazz Jefferies (Head of

Lens), Jack Berisford (Chair of Hall Media), Ryan Andrews (LSUTV Station Manager), Martin So (Head of

Media Marketing), Chris Moore (Media Technical Production Support). Siddharth Kohli (Vice chair of

Media and Communications at Luil)

Minutes:

1) Review of Previous Actions.

ACTION SECTION HEADS: Post to committee groups telling them that media work should not be stored on personal computers.

ACTION CM & JB: Discuss hall media to fit in with media guidelines.

ACTION CM: Audit cupboard

ACTION BW: Find out when after hours are in media office.

ACTION JJ, CM: Finalise training. Then send to senate finalised training procedures.

ACTION SECTION HEADS: Explain to committees on whom to speak to on relevant issues.

Explain trouble-shooting strategy to committees. Make sure people are cc’d into troubleshooting emails.

ACTION CM: Get board outside the media office, illustrating whose who.

ACTION BW: Next website meeting, bring up authorship. Editor and author positions. Website permissions.

ACTION SECTION HEADS: Post MS’ message about the opening of the new assistant posts to committees

ACTION DJ: Spread sheet of how far documentation is.

2) Senate Report

DJ: How I Met Media

JB: New William Morris Media rep.

MS: How I met Media

RA: Coffee house sessions underway, Leicester Riders success

SK: Need more basic equipment in London to bring more students together.

SL: SMPTE Event – poor attendance but good feedback

CM: DJ at fireworks. Arrived before 9am on Wednesday.

KW: Label out. Full team of delegates at SPANC

PJ: Rag Fireworks success

1) Media in Loughborough in London (Presented by Sid Kohli)

368 students

Photography, Loughborough London magazine, Sports broadcasting, Lifestyle/fashion video content already exist.

Pilot project: 2015 Rugby World Cup, USA v South Africa.

[Proposed]

- Collaboration with Loughborough media

- Set up London portal on LSU Media

- Publish London content on LSUTV

- Regular meetings between LSU Media and LSU London

- London based media digest every two weeks

- Publishing content in English and Chinese

- Sport broadcasting – Olympic Stadium, Velodrome, Aquatic Centre etc.

JB: Concern – website – Loughborough London would overshadow LSU Media. Look like content that is produced by Loughborough students instead of London.

BW: LSU bridges both, even though separate places.

DL: Is it branded as LSU media or London university media?

BW: Answer : LSU Media

SK: In need of a platform. Views generated for content – more content produced. Just starting off

– take a long time to set up own.

PJ: Good opportunity for both universities to learn about each other. Send volunteers to both places. How would it be funded?

BW: LuiL – LSU London Co-ordinator looking for specific grants. £5 for LuiL media members as membership.

KW: Where are they published on the website? London section until it’s moved to multi site.

JB: Social media – Facebook pages?

BW: Suggestion: collaborate social media along with LCR.

KW: Editorial responsibility?

SK: One person in London responsible. Sub-editor. Head of Production in Loughborough London.

Multi-lingual media. Translated to be edited.

BW: Content in London through media.lsu.co.uk section pages. London page on website. – possible splash images etc.

Senate agreed LSU Media in London to go ahead as a general idea.

2) Online content (Presented by Katie Wilson)

Following on from documentation meeting.

Facebook use and admin rights.

PJ: Totty Tv – Filming of Mister Jam, selfies etc.

DL: Committee members did everything they could do.

ACTION all: Email the situation and questions to BW & CM

ACTION BW: Speak to Evo.
