Lesson 3: Comparative study: Crime and Punishment in Medieval Europe compared
to Medieval Japan
Intended Outcomes:
 Locates, selects and organises information from sources to develop an
historical inquiry (HT4-8)
 Selects and uses appropriate oral, written, visual and digital forms to
communicate about the past (HT4-10)
 Outline the main features of at least ONE of the following:
Crime and punishment

- PowerPoint Presentation ‘Medieval Crime and Punishment’
- www.glogster.edu
Activity:
Students are shown a brief PowerPoint outlining the nature of medieval crime and
punishment. After the PowerPoint a short class discussion will be had on the
differences between European and Japanese forms of crime and punishment, then,
using what they have been shown in the PowerPoint as well as their own research
skills, students are to use glogster.edu to make a poster consisting of 3 different
forms of medieval punishment, an explanation of how it worked as well as some
other relevant information.
