ACT I Scene 1 Ryan walks into the living room, where David is sitting. David pours himself a drink then stops Ryan as he walks past. DAVID Where are you going? RYAN To school. DAVID Were you not even going to say bye to your loving father? RYAN Erm... DAVID Have you done all of your homework? RYAN Yeah. DAVID Let me see then. RYAN Can you not just trust that i've done it? DAVID Let me see your homework, NOW! RYAN No. DAVID What? Give me that. David slams his drink on the table then tries to grab Ryan's bag from his shoulder. They then fight over the bag with David finally getting it. He takes it to the chair and looks inside. DAVID What is this. DAVID I swear, they're for a friend. DAVID Don't lie to me son. RYAN I'm not DAVID You're making me angry son. RYAN I'll get rid of them. David punches Ryan in the stomach. Ryan falls to the ground. DAVID Get up. Is that a tear? I thought i raised a boy not a girl. Just get out. Ryan gets up, grabs his back and leaves out the wings. David walks over to the table, takes a drink then stand with both hands on the table. Change to other half of the stage. Brian is sitting doing work. Alana is getting ready for school and Carol walks onto stage. CAROL How's your work going? BRIAN Not too bad, there's just so much i need to do. CAROL Well remember you're taking Alana to school today. BRIAN Yeah, i'm not going to be able to take her today. I've just got so much work to do. CAROL You know i'm starting work early today, that's why i asked you to take her. BRIAN Look i'm sorry but this work is important. CAROL Yes my work is important as well that's why I have to be on time. You literally do nothing apart from just sit there doing "work". BRIAN Oh yeah I do nothing yet I'm the one who pays the majority of the bills and puts food on the table for this family. CAROL OK, but what else do you do? Whens the last time you actually spent anytime with your daughter? Do you even know how old she is? BRIAN I do loads with Alana CAROL Picking her up from one dance lesson doesn't count as spending time Brian. BRIAN Do you know what Carol, I don't think... CAROL Ssshh! Here comes Alana. Morning hun. ALANA Morning, that's me ready to go. Dad can I get lunch money? BRIAN How much do you need? ALANA £5? BRIAN OK, here you go. ALANA So are we going? BRIAN Oh, well your mum... CAROL I'll be taking you to school today seeing as your dad has too much work to do. ALANA OK. Carol grabs the keys from the desk next to her. BRIAN The car keys are on the desk. CAROL Obviously I know that considering I just picked them up. Come on Alana. ALANA Bye dad. BRIAN Have a good day. Carol and Alana exit through the wings. Brian sits down and continues work ending in a freeze frame.
