COURSE SYLLABUS
Applying Common Core to Classroom Applications
USES (1 credit, non-degree)
SPRING 2015
Course Objective
 Instructors will be able to identify and implement activity based instructional strategies
as presented during the seminars. Instructors will develop a unit plan based on one of
the seminar topics attended for use in their rural classrooms.
Course Requirements
 Instructors must attend 18 hours of seminar activities offered in the second semester of
2014 - 2015 by the MSSA focused on strategies in the listed disciplines.
 Following the completion of the required hours of instruction, instructors will complete a
unit plan identifying and demonstrating implementation strategies in the subject areas
chosen.
 Papers will use resources from the attended seminars to verify the instructional
strategies chosen as those offered through the MSSA slate of seminars.
 Papers will be graded on a pass/fail basis.
 All requirements must be completed and returned by May 8, 2015.
 Registration and payment is through MSU – Bozeman.
 Students will be required to pay the credit fee of $135.00 to MSU-Bozeman Extended
University.
Course Description
 Montana Small School Alliance Instructors at the various schools will be exposed to a
variety of activity based strategies in during the second semester of the 2014-2015
school-year at various locations. Based on the particular seminars attended, instructors
will choose a discipline to focus the paper on and identify strategies that they will take
back to their classrooms to implement in the form of a unit plan.
 Resource requirements minimally are the materials handed out at each seminar
attended along with any other text or resource material that is pertinent to the
objectives of the class and paper.
 Identification of online and web based resources is an important criteria in the
development of the term paper and activities to be implemented.
