Second Spring Arts Festival Reception (Literary, Performing, Visual) May 29, 2015 5-6 pm
The Visual Arts Competition is part of the Second Spring Arts Festival celebrating the creativity of
seniors age 60 and older thru the Visual, Performing, and Literary Arts. Visual artists are invited to
also participate in the Literary and Performing portions of the Second Spring Arts Festival.
Second Spring Arts Visual Arts showcases Original Fine Art (all media) including photography
and Heritage items including Decorative Arts, Quilts, Sculpture, Pottery, Ceramics, Weaving, Stained
Glass, Basket Weaving, and Doll Making/Houses.
There is a $10.00 Visual Arts Entry Fee due upon delivery of work and is payable with check or cash.
For 2015, we are accepting two entries per participant. If possible, we ask one of the two entries
comply in some way with the Festival theme to honor our veterans. However, this is not a
requirement.
For planning purposes, the ENTRY INVENTORY CARD (page 3-top portion) is due April 12, 2015.
Please mail to Second Spring Arts, Inc., P.O. Box 24306, Winston-Salem, NC 27114. If preferred, the
required information may be emailed to secondspringarts.visualarts@gmail.com with ‘2015 Second
Spring Arts Entry’ in the subject line. Email must include all information requested on the Entry
Inventory Card. There is no additional fee to be included in the Jury Process. Any questions, please
email with ‘Entry Question’ in the subject line.
JURIED ENTRIES: Entries will be judged for First, Second, and Third Place for Fine Art Entries
and for First, Second, and Third Place for Heritage Entries. There will be a cash award this year.
Details will be provided at Entry Delivery. Winning entries will be identified after judging in
consideration of visitors to the Exhibit. Winning artists/artisans will be recognized in a brief
presentation during the Festival Reception.

All work entered must be the original work of the artist. Artists/Artisans must be 60 years of age or
older. Submitted work(s) must have been completed within the last 5 years. Best of Show, First,
Second, and Third Place 2014 winning entries may be entered into the 2015 Visual Arts Competition
if excluded from the Jury process.

No Fine Art entry may exceed 42 inches horizontally (including frame if applicable) or 50 pounds in
weight. (42” guideline does not apply to Quilt Entries.) Two dimensional works must be framed in
a professional manner and securely wired for hanging. (No alligator type hangers.) Canvases must
be framed or gallery-wrapped with no visible staples or unpainted canvas. Canvases with wet paint
will not be accepted. Works on paper should be framed and protected by glass or Plexiglas.
Sculpture must be ready to hang or sit on a flat surface. Improperly presented work will not be
accepted.
Mass produced printed reproductions of paintings or drawings will not be accepted. Photography
should be the first edition of the print run. All work must be the participant’s original idea and be
created by the participant. Work completed in a class is acceptable only if it was not a general class
assignment and was executed solely by the participant without modifications by the instructor.
Prior to delivery of the entry(s), two-dimensional entries must be identified on the upper right back
corner with the LABEL FOR ARTWORK (page 3-lower portion.) Three-dimensional entry(s) must
also be unobtrusively identified with the LABEL FOR ARTWORK (page 3-lower portion.)
VERY IMPORTANT: Exhibit Presentation Cards will be prepared from information submitted on the
ENTRY INVENTORY CARD below. It is very important this information be correct.
Entries will be insured for the duration of the Exhibit based on the PRICE or the NOT FOR SALE
value. (VERY IMPORTANT: NFS Value MUST be provided if the entry is not for sale.)
Artists and artisans are asked to provide either a brief one-paragraph BIOGRAPHICAL STATEMENT,
or an ARTIST STATEMENT, or answer the question—WHY I CREATE plus a two or three sentence
description of the inspiration behind the creation of the entry(s) you have chosen to submit.
Statements/Answer/Inspiration may be mailed to Second Spring Arts, Inc., P.O. Box 24306, WinstonSalem, NC 27114 or emailed to secondspringarts.visualarts@gmail.com with 2015 VISUAL ARTS
STATEMENT/ANSWER/INSPIRATION in the subject line no later than April 10, 2015. This
information will be displayed beside the Guest Register during the Exhibit and may be used in
advertising to promote the Second Spring Arts Festival.
Visitors to the Exhibit wishing to purchase will have opportunity to make a REQUEST FOR
PURCHASE. This request will be given to the artist at Entry Pick Up. All sales are to be handled by
the individual artists. No commissions are due; however, a donation to Second Spring Arts, Inc. is
always welcome. All entries must exhibit for the duration of the show, May 8 to June 1, 2015.
Please make appropriate arrangements to deliver and pick up entries at times designated above.
There are no provisions for early delivery or late pick up. Unclaimed works will be considered
donations to Second Spring Arts, Inc. Participants, or their designee, are required to initial in each
entry at delivery and also initial out each entry at pick-up.
Second Spring Arts, Inc., its volunteers, AAWS, and FFASF shall not be responsible for any damage
that may occur to any entry in this exhibit as a result of inadequate fabrication, improper framing, or
for any other reason. Participants acknowledge and accept this with their entry information
submission.
