Job Title: Match Corps: Boston
Company: Match Education
Job Type: Full Time, Internship
Degrees Wanted: Bachelors
Majors Wanted: Any Major
Location: Massachusetts
Salary: Living stipend, free housing
Job Description: Match Corps: Boston is a one-year, full-time residential fellowship program. It
pairs Corps members with 6-7 students at Match High School, Match Middle School, or Match
Community Day Elementary School. Corps members run small group or 1-on-1 tutorials,
manage extra-curricular activities, coach sports, and serve as a Teaching Assistants to any one of
our outstanding classroom teachers. Corps members may also participate in the role of an
Administrative Assistant in one of the school departments. This full-time service year program is
designed to fully close the academic achievement gap between minority students and their nonminority peers, one student at a time. Each Corps member works to guarantee the academic
success of Match students while building personal relationships with the students and their
parents. Match Corps: Boston allows idealistic and dedicated young people to invest their time
and energy in depth over breadth, focusing their attention on just a few students' needs and goals.
Match Corps is not necessarily looking for the future teachers of America. We want future
doctors, lawyers, MBAs, architects; we want majors from math, political science, literature,
economics, engineering -- anyone willing to work tirelessly for one year to erase, not narrow, the
achievement gap. Corps members who know they want to teach for at least two years in a highpoverty charter school should opt in to Match Teacher Residency. Match Teacher Residency is
our in-house, optional teacher training program. In MTR, Boston Corps members receive
additional training on the weekends with the aim of becoming unusually effective first year
teachers in high-poverty schools. Graduates of MTR go on to teach at some of the most highly
regarded charter schools in the country and consistently outperform other rookie teachers in the
classroom. For more information about MTR, visit the website here:
http://www.matcheducation.org/join-us/match-teacher-residency-boston Match Corps: Boston is
distinct from its sister program, Match Corps: Lawrence, in two key ways: 1) Boston Corps
members tutor math and English, while Lawrence fellows only tutor 9th and 10th grade math,

Job Title: Match Teacher Residency
Company: Match Education
Job Type: Full Time, Internship
Degrees Wanted: Bachelors
Majors Wanted: Any Major
Location: Massachusetts
Salary: Living stipend, free housing
Job Description: Do you want to be an unusually effective first year teacher in a high-poverty
charter school? If so, you should consider Match Teacher Residency, a highly innovative, oneyear teacher training program. Basically, we give college graduates one year of incredibly
intense training designed to make them unusually effective rookie teachers. We then help them
find teaching positions in high-need schools, and continue to support them as they begin their
careers in the classroom. What sets MTR apart from other teacher prep programs? 1) We're
prescriptive, like a sports coach or piano teacher; you learn and practice very specific "Teacher
Moves." 2) Trainees are specifically being prepared to teach in charter schools with a track
record of "turning around" low-performing kids. 3) We have a very particular approach, which
involves building relationships 1-on-1 with kids and parents, then using those relationships to run
a tight ship in class, enforcing rules consistently, and expecting a lot from our students. MTR is
no different from Match Corps: Boston, our full-time tutoring program, from Monday to
Thursday. However, unlike regular Corps members, MTRs want to go on to become full-time
teachers in high-need, "No Excuses" charter schools. So on Fridays and Saturdays, MTRs learn
about the nuts and bolts of teaching, get tons of practice, and receive in-depth coaching. MTRs
also pursue a Masters of Effective Teaching Degree from our brand-new, in-house grad school:
The Charles Sposato Graduate School of Education. For more information on the new Masters
degree component of MTR, have a look at: http://www.matcheducation.org/match-teacherresidency/sposato-graduate-school-education. As mentioned above, Match Teacher Residents
also serve in Match Corps: Boston, our one-of-a-kind yearlong tutoring fellowship. The Match
Corps program began in 2004 and is the first of its kind in the nation. The Corps is a group of
135 top recent college graduates who work one-on-one with six to eight Match High School,
Middle School or Match Community Day School students each day for an entire academic year.
Corps members live together in apartments near the Middle School and Elementary School and
in a dorm on the top floor of the High School. All three schools are open-admission charter
public schools in Boston, MA. This full-time service year program is designed to fully close the
academic Achievement Gap between minority students and their non-minority peers, one student
at a time. For more information about Match Teacher Residency, check out these resources: A

Job Title: Match Corps: Lawrence
Company: Match Education
Job Type: Full Time, Internship
Degrees Wanted: Bachelors, Doctorate, Masters
Majors Wanted: Any Major
Location: Massachusetts
Salary: Living stipend
Job Description: Does education reform interest you? Do you want to help close the
achievement gap in public schools? You should consider joining the Match Corps: Lawrence
which is a full-time, 10.5-month urban education math tutoring fellowship. We are recruiting
smart, idealistic, relentless people to work full-time during the 2013-2014 school year in two
turnaround schools in Lawrence, Massachusetts. Match Corps: Lawrence is a full-time, inschool, professional tutoring corps similar to what Match Charter Public Schools have done in
Boston since 2004. Each Fellow works with two students at a time each period of the school day,
and will have a personal caseload of 12 students all year long. Fellows will play a significant role
in transforming two chronically failing high schools, will drive student achievement by
providing individualized instruction, and will build personal and meaningful relationships with
urban students and their families during this year of service. Match Corps: Lawrence is an elite
program. In previous years, we have received more than 20 applicants for every position and
only select from the top 10%. Although Fellows must have strong 9th and 10th grade math skills,
we accept applicants from all majors. Match Corps: Lawrence fellows must have a bachelor's
degree. The program is open to any adult who is willing to commit to a full-time service year.
Ideal candidates will include recent college graduates, mid-career individuals, and retirees. We
seek a diverse workforce. Spanish language proficiency is not required, but is valued. In
considering applications, we primarily look for a strong academic record, coaching or tutoring
experience, and a readiness to rise to the many demands and challenges that arise when working
with at-risk youth. We need idealistic and driven people who are hungry for consistent feedback.
We need anyone who will commit to working tirelessly for one year to erase, not narrow, the
achievement gap. To apply, go to http://www.matcheducation.org/match-corps-lawrence/applymatch-corps-lawrence
