Students please remember there is no food or drink in the library.
PLAY try-outs have already started. If you want to try out – sign up immediately! Please
see Mrs. Bashayreh in Room 103.
Students and faculty--please make sure you check out all library books and reference materials
with Mrs. Morgan. Items should not leave the library until they are checked out--this includes
fiction, non-fiction books, magazines and dictionaries and encyclopedias. Thanks
GSW will be hosting its first blood drive of the school year this Wed, Sept. 16th from 2:00-6:30.
If you are interested in giving blood, please sign-up for a time slot. You can contact Coach
Gibson, any Business club member or the main office.
ATTENTION SENIORS: There will be a mandatory graduation meeting during Homeroom
on Wed, Sept 16th in the cafeteria. We will be ordering your diplomas so it is important that you
discuss how you want your name written on your diploma with your parents beforehand. Any
senior that will not be able to make this meeting, see Mrs. Sukley so you can sign the form.
Juniors - There are still 2 - 3 spots available for the ISU trip on Tuesday, October 6th. Stop by
the guidance office to pick up the necessary paperwork.
Citizenship Students: Please do not forget to turn in your time sheets. These are due by the end
of the day on Monday. Your first reflection paper (1-page in length, MLA format) is due
on September 28. Please see Coach Gibson with any questions.

If any SENIORS have not turned in proof of receiving the meningococcal shot, please do so.
This was supposed to be done BEFORE the start of the school year. Please have this completed
and turned into the guidance office ASAP!
If any FRESHMEN have not turned in their physical, please so do. This was supposed to be
turned in by the First Day of School. Please turn into the guidance office ASAP!
CLUBS:
Anyone wanting to join ART CLUB we will have a quick meeting TODAY (Tues) after
school in Room 100. You do not need to be in ART to join. If you can’t make it, please see
Ms. Dallio.
NHS meetings will be at 7:30am. They will be every Tuesday at that time.
BUSINESS CLUB: Reminder –members need to sign up for a time slot to help at the blood
drive on Wednesday. See Coach Gibson to sign up for a 1-hour or 2-hour shift.
If you would like to join MATH team you need to see Mrs. Leigh by the end of the school
day on Wednesday! Practices will start in October. Our first competition is November
18th.

Gardner-South Wilmington High School Volleyball Results
Date: 9/14/15
Opponent: Somonauk
Varsity: GSW 25, 25 Somonauk 19, 19
The Gardner-South Wilmington Panthers (6-1, 1-1) got back on the right track with a win
over Somonauk 25-19 and 25-19. Leading the Panthers was Marlana Ferrari with 6 kills, 4
stuff blocks, and 2 aces. Celia Barna added 5 kills and Kira Gleason had a team high 6
digs. Sydney Perkins distributed 13 assists while Barna distributed 8.
Junior Varsity: GSW 19, 17 Somonauk 25, 25
The Junior Varsity team (3-3, 1-1) fell to Somonauk 19-25 and 17-25. Leading the Lady
Panthers was Kaylee Steichen with 5 kills and 2 aces and Cadee Grieff added 6 digs. Mady
Asbridge had 6 assists and Delaney Miner 4.
Color Guard – Practices for parades will be on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at 7:00
AM.
Athletic Season Passes are available for purchase. Please contact Coach Gibson to purchase a
pass.

Saturday: Volleyball @ Clifton Central JV Tourney; Boys Soccer @ St. Anne
Boys basketball open gym 6:00-8:00 PM on Monday and Thursday.
There will be a girls basketball open gym this Sat., Sept. 19th from 2:00 to 4:00 PM. Any
girls who are interested in playing basketball are welcome to attend.
GUIDANCE:
Students, if you are interested in being involved with a county wide youth philanthropy
group stop by the guidance office for more information. This is a great opportunity to get
involved!
If you are interested in the College of Aces at University of Illinois stop by the guidance office to
pick up information on an Open House being held in Chicago on Saturday, October 10th. RSVPs
are due by October 1st.
Financial Aid Night has been set for 6 pm on Wednesday, January 27th in the cafeteria. This is a
very important informational meeting for any student planning to attend college.
JJC COMPASS Testing has been set for 8 am on Thursday, February 18th at GSW.
The School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) is meeting with students interested in
attending and going over portfolios at two locations: Winnetka on Sept. 26 and Lisle on Sept. 27.

Students, if you are interested in making a difference in your community stop by the guidance
office to pick up an informational flyer for the Youth Philanthropy Group. This is a county wide
group that has helped grant out over $5000 last year alone! The introductory meeting will be
held on Sunday, September 20th at 6 pm at the Community Foundation in Morris. RSVPs are
needed by September 17th. Dinner will be provided.
Seniors - If you have maintained a 3.0 GPA or higher during your high school career, are a
leader and role model in your school and community, and participate in one of 43 eligible sports
you should consider applying for the Wendy's High School Heisman Award. Application are
available at www.wendyshighschoolheisman.com. Applications are due by 3 pm on October
2nd.
Juniors - If you are interested in attending a field trip to Illinois State University on Tuesday,
October 6th materials are available in the guidance office. Seating is very limited so the first
thirteen students to return their signed Field Trip Consent Form to Ms. Kilmer will get to attend
this event.
Juniors and Seniors - If you are interested in a week long program on government and leadership
this March taking place in Washington DC, stop by the guidance office to get application
information or visit www.ussenateyouth.org.
JJC will be hosting a College Fair on Wednesday, October 14th from 5:30-8pm. There will be at
least 126 colleges in attendance!! Flyers for the event will be available in the guidance
office next Friday.
Washington University in St. Louis will host Admissions Information Sessions on Sunday,
September 20th and Sunday, October 18th. For more information, please stop by the guidance
office or visit admissions.wustle.edu.
If you are interested in attending a private college in Wisconsin, please stop by the guidance
office to pick up an admission and financial aid guide.
