Gain and loss of Globalization
Since Globalization emerged, people’s lives have being changing during the economic rapidly
increase and this change happened to all areas. Meanwhile, the McDonalds, KFC and Starbucks,
appeared in the city of developing countries and 90% household items were made in china,
which is selling in the supermarket in the developed countries, at same time, the various
culture: art, science, technology are communicated frequently along with the economic
Globalization establishment, it is not only bringing the enormous economic benefits but also
associated other areas developments, thus, it looks prosperity all of world. Nonetheless,
whether there is no other issue under this enormous effort.
China is one of developing country, when the first McDonald opened in Peking(Beijing) during
end of 1980s, this “world famous” fast food was grabbing people’s attention right way because
it just heard of, but never seen for real, its different fashion decorating style, different service
and different tasting bring the new idea and new conception to this country, the waiting line as
long as out of door, and even keep waiting on the street during the business hour. Sometime
patrons would wait for hour to buy a comb meal.
To be honest, the McDonald’s hamburger wasn’t as delicious as Chinese people are imaged,
and the price also was many times of a regular meal at local restaurant, but people still flocked.
This is a strike of culture and a new communication in between China and America, moreover,
impact on the enormous benefits from Chinese marketing; the more McDonalds were opened
in most general major cities in China, and followed more different American business start
opening one after the other, at the same time, the new marketing idea inject fresh blood to
Chinese old marketing system and the market also provided tens of thousands job
opportunities to Chinese people.
However, the new problem has been issued with this effect; some of Chinese local business
has been shut down, or being acquired after many foreign brands entered. Moreover, there is
the most important factor in which most profit of business goes to a few corporations, then
more and more give less contributions for local economic developing. Thus, this phenomenon is
getting more and more people’s attention. The government and scholarly have started
doubting this Globalization whether it has actually created benefits, or changed people’s life.
As same time as in China, from other side of Earth, America which was the leader of developed
countries, also enjoined the benefits from the economic Globalization.
Since Wal-Mart appeared until today, it is the biggest super market franchise for which the
American people cannot live without. The successes of Wal-Mart are the lower price of the
merchandise, the low price of the goods is benefited from cheap lab from China. Almost every
Americans know more than 90% of products are made in China, and also know these are not
only in Wal-Mart but also in MACY*S and JCP which are such brand name stores. Today, the
Wal-Mart brand is almost everywhere in American and make huge money every day. It looks
like people enjoy shopping with cheap prices, and the corporation enjoys make more money.
Therefore, more and more American companies move their manufacturing to China and only
keep designing and technology rights. This is cut out big cost and makes more profits for certain.
But, from time to time, there is a problem facing to American government which is the
unemployment is increased, and the commerce tax is decrease. Factories are closed and people
unemployed, and then have no money for paying bills.
So, where does the money goes which those companies made? The money mostly goes to the
corporations, except small amounts paying cheap Chinese laborers. Meanwhile, the American
people lost their jobs. So, this is happened in “developed country” of American. Whether
believe in Globalization this is the effect on the American people as a result of Globalization.
The Globalization is economic revolution, it no question changed the economic landscape of
the entire world, it helps developing countries increase their market and learning new business
ideas, and new technology. At same time, the Globalization brings the enormous benefits to the
developed countries, and enriched the products of market.
Also, the Globalization provided country to country culture and technology exchanging. This is
a great contribution for the entire world. Meanwhile, as Korten’s words “enriching the few at
the expense of the many”, the few corporations dominate most markets and gain the most
profits. so, the rich will become richer, and the poor will still remain in poor. This is not original
aim of Globalization and it has to be fundamentally changed. Thus, the governments should
regulate more effectively, whether getting involved in this movement by intervening with the
distribution of benefits, instead of corporations and financial elites make their own rules.
