Research Institute of Pharmacology, Hygiene and Medical Biochemistry named
after Skakun M. P. was formed by decision of Academic Board of Ternopil State
Medical University on June 8, 2005 number 14 and by the order of the rector of
Ternopil State Medical University named after I. Y. Horbachevsky, member correspondent. NAMS prof. L. Y. Kovalchuk from June 8, 2005 № 201, started
functioning on July 15, 2005. Institute has become a structural division of Medical
faculty; it was created to prepare current professionals who need to have sufficient
medical knowledge and skills, as well as for research on this type of institution.
Today there are three major departments with their training facilities, classrooms
and equipment, library with computer room; printing house, lecture halls.
Departments of Pharmacology with Clinical Pharmacology (head prof. Posokhova
R. A., Head of Clinical Pharmacology course professor. Shmanko V. V.), General
Hygiene and the Environment (head prof. Kashuba M. O.), Medical Biochemistryi
(headed by prof. Korda M. M.) are the basic structural subdivisions of the institute,
they perform training, educational and methodological activities of several
disciplines and specialties and perform scientific, research and technical activities
for a particular direction. The first director was elected on August 29, 2005 by
secret ballot on the basis of alternatives head of the Department of Medical
Chemistry professor. Honskyy Y. I.
Teaching Process
Academic Council functions at the Institute and Cycle Methodical Commission
(CMC). Their meetings are held in accordance with the approved annual plan. The
Director shall issue regulations based on the decisions of Academic Board.
Thematic classes are assigned to teachers, classes are held in them by the
developed algorithms of the department cycles, which will allow teachers to
deepen their specialization and create necessary training and material base of each
cycle. Students get the opportunity to study almost in every lecturer. The
Department switched to Z-system, learning process was organized by a system of
"one day”. I was started a directory of educational video content for training
rooms. It was made tests in three languages for the assessment of students for each
practice; the same tests in three languages were presented in the Center of
independent testing test for the student’s semester exams. At the Department of the
Institute it was made a significant base of tests, which has in particular: Department of Pharmacology - 30,113 units - Department of General Hygiene and
Ecology - 33120, Department of Medical Biochemistry - 41322 pcs. Whereas
international students study at the departments of Institute, all working training
programs and additional methodological supports were developed in English and
Russian languages in the form of materials for preparations to practical classes,
presentations, lectures and guidance for students, algorithms of practical skills,
teaching materials for teachers. They are created in paper and electronic versions,
so students have free access to them through the Intranet network. A number of
teachers released textbooks and manuals, which went to all educational
establishments of 1 - 4 levels of certification.
Research
Scientific work at the institute of Biochemistry, Pharmacology and Hygiene named
after Skakun M. P. was performed in the following areas: - planning and
implementation of theses - of department and interdepartmental research;
organization and implementation of student research - provision of
interdepartmental research laboratory. Every year, twice a year thesis reports on
performed scientific work and reports of departmental and interdepartmental
research were listened. The staff of the institute received more than two dozen
patents for invention, work and certificate of innovative proposals. Since 2011 the
overhaul repair has started of the left wing of the building which housed the
institute, including the Department of Pharmacology with replacement of roofs,
floors, installing suspended ceilings, lighting, repairing walls, stairs, doors,
windows, producing new educational furniture, creating new library with computer
lab and lecture halls. New computer lab and library are equipped with 26 new
computers and furniture.
Perspectives
It is planned in 2012 - 2013 academic year to: - carry out major repairs of right
building wing, capital reconstruction of lecture room number 1 and replace the
floor, lighting, suspended ceiling installation and repair of walls, installation of
computer, supply of Internet network. Also in 2012 construction and equipment of
new research laboratory of the Institute of Pharmacology, Hygiene and Medical
Biochemistry starts in the basement area of 60.6 m2, which is designed for
biochemical, pharmacological, toxicological, immunological studies and more.
During 2013-2014 it is planned to equip a new research laboratory with necessary
equipment and appliances for state budget and economical projects. Today, a new
spectrophotometer was bought, which was put into operation. It is planned to
implement five doctoral and six master's theses.
Educational work
The department staff pays much attention to national educational and patriotic
work. They are the curators of student groups, both domestic and international
students. Institute staff performs charitable work, helping children in orphanages,
children with visual impairments and others. Articles of educational teaching
character are frequently published in newspapers "Medical Academy", "University
Hospital". Institute staff confidently looks into the future and fulfill its tasks.
