November 19, 2011
Dear Friends of Kiwanis,
Welcome to our Fifteenth Annual Charity Auction, dedicated to the memory of the
auction's founder and our good friend, Pat Wilson. Pat's passing in January of 2001 was a huge
loss to his family, to Kiwanis, and to the Greater Crofton area, where his many acts of charity
and community service remain as examples to all of us as we strive to advance the Kiwanis
mission of changing the world one child and one community at a time.
We have a large selection of items this year — over 400 — and we hope to provide you
with an exciting evening of fun, refreshments, and fellowship with your friends and neighbors.
We hope you will be generous in your bidding since all net proceeds of the auction will go to
the many charitable and civic causes we support.
The Crofton Kiwanis has a single purpose, and that is to serve. Our focus is on
children, but we are always there to lend a helping hand in our community, wherever it is needed.
This past year, for example, we helped to finance a summer program for kids living at Sarah's
House, a local shelter for homeless families; donated $5,000 to the Crofton Christian Caring
Council; provided holiday food and gifts to local needy families with children; and provided
funds and manpower for renovations to the home of local resident in need through the
Rebuilding Together program. We continue, through our Wounded Service Members Care
Project, to assist military service members seriously wounded in Iraq or Afghanistan. We invite
you to consider joining us in Crofton Kiwanis and take part in our mission of service to youth
and our communities.
We are grateful for the participation of over 100 local merchants and businesses providing
donations to help bring you the wide variety of items presented here tonight. A special thanks to
our auction committee volunteers who have spent many hours to make this auction a success.
Thank you for attending our auction, and we hope you will have an enjoyable evening.
Yours in Community Service,
Dave Shickel
President
AUCTION TERMS
BIDDING
Your bidder number is written on the back of your Auction Catalog.
Each SILENT AUCTION item is identified by a Silent Bid sheet posted next to the item
on the silent bid tables. All items have a minimum bid, and a minimum increment by
which each bid must be increased. To bid on an item, simply write your bidder number
in the bidder # column and your dollar bid amount in the amount column.
Announcements will be made to advise all bidders of the closing times of selected silent
auction tables. A copy of each bid sheet will remain on the table so that you may
determine the winning bid for each item. Please do not remove bid sheets from the
tables. You may go to the cashier’s table to pay for and claim your winning bid items at
any time. In some cases you will be given a receipt to return to the tables to claim your
items.
To bid on a LIVE AUCTION item, raise your Auction Catalog so your bidder number
can be seen by the auctioneer. If you are the successful bidder, you will be given a
voucher indicating your bidder number, the auction item number, and the amount of your
successful bid. To claim your live auction item, go to the cashier’s table and present your
winning voucher form. Upon payment, your live auction item will be provided to you.
All of your bid purchases will be summarized prior to your arrival at the cashier’s table.
You do not need to visit the cashier’s table until you are ready to leave the auction.
PAYMENT
Successful bidders have a choice as to the method of payment. We accept cash, checks,
and Visa and MasterCard credit cards. Please note that there is no Maryland sales tax
on any of the items you purchase tonight.
GENERAL RULES
All sales are final. There are no exchanges or refunds of items by the donors or by the
Kiwanis Foundation of Crofton, except where specified, such as the donor becoming
unable to provide the item or service promised. Please do not ask the donor for
substitutions, exchanges, or refunds. To avoid disappointment, please make all vacation
and lodging reservations well in advance. All resort and private vacation properties are
offered to families and adults, and to minors accompanied by adults.
Unless otherwise specified, all auction items must be removed from the premises at the
purchaser’s own risk on the night of the auction.
Thank you for coming and HAPPY BIDDING!
