About Hearing Loss and Sound World Solutions

The Problem of Hearing Loss

The scale of the need worldwide is immense. According to numbers from the World Health Organization

(WHO), there are more than 600 million people with severe hearing loss. Add in those with more moderate forms of loss and you near the 1 billion mark. Against that backdrop of need, the traditional hearing aid industry is selling about 10 million products per year. Of those, fewer than 1 million devices make their way out of the US or Western Europe.

According to the hearing aid industry and MarkeTrack studies:

1.

The average hearing aid customer waited 7 years from the time that they decided they needed to take action to address their hearing challenges to the point where they made a purchase. This does not include the time that they were in denial.

2.

Between 30 and 40 million people in the US need help with their hearing, yet traditional hearing aid solutions sell only about 3 million devices per year. Many of those are repeat purchasers who are upgrading to new models.

3.

The hearing aid industry has never achieved more than 25% penetration of those who need hearing help.

4.

Incidence of hearing loss is increasing, not decreasing.

Why Sound World Solutions?

Our mission is easy to describe – to create and deliver high quality, affordable hearing devices that allow people to rediscover the power of connection, no matter what their geographic location or economic circumstance happens to be. To succeed in that mission, we have had to start from the ground up in every component of the system… from how the product is designed and produced, to how the individual has their hearing screened and gets fitted, to the types of organizations that we work with to deliver our solutions to those in need.

To make this dream work, we needed to make a product that was technologically advanced, easy for users to customize and at a price point much lower than the current hearing aid producers. We used the newest hearing aid technology and readily available consumer electronic components to keep our manufacturing costs low. Our first product, the CS10 Bluetooth series personal sound amplifier was introduced in 2013.

We continue to add new products, introducing the CS50+ Bluetooth series personal sound amplifier in

2014. The FDA registered Companion hearing aid and the Sidekick personal sound amplifier, both with

Bluetooth capability, were introduced in May and June 2015.
