Information Sheet Poland 2016

This information sheet outlines the 2016 summer camps run by Camp Arka in Poland.

Programme: Camp Arka, Poland for Native English Speakers as Helpers

Programme dates: Three 1-week long camps: June 25-2 July, 2-9 July, 9-16 July, 2016

Orientation for the first camp is on June 23, so arrive in Wroclaw by June 22 for first camp and then the Wednesday before for subsequent camps

Location: Wroclaw, Poland

Total Cost: £100 one week, £140 for two weeks: £190 for three weeks

Due on: Payment in cash to Camp Arka on arrival.

1. Transport. You are required to arrange your own transport to Wrocław Airport, Poland (NB this is NOT Warsaw). Cheapest is Ryanair or Wizzair. Provided you have made your flight details clear to Camp Arka at least a week in advance of your arrival, you will be met at Wroclaw

Airport by a member of the “Arka” team. Transport to and from the airport is by private car and to and from the campsite by bus. At the end of the time you will be taken by private car to the airport.

In the event of your arrival at Wroclaw Airport being delayed, the person awaiting you will wait as long as is reasonable (up to 3 hours). You will be given the telephone number and address of

Camp Arka staff just in case your flight has severe delays and you are not able to be met. We will then come as soon as possible to pick you up.

2. Accommodation: During your stay at Camp Arka, you will stay in modest hostel accommodation. Rooms are single-sex and accommodate 2 to 5 people each. The room may include en suite facilities or may make use of a shared bathroom. All bedding and bed linen is provided. You need to provide your own towel and toiletries. Before and after the camps, you will be accommodated in the homes of Camp Arka staff in Poland.

3. Meals: full board. All main meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) are included in your package.

We will endeavour to accommodate special dietary requirements provided you have

communicated these to us at the time of booking. Optional extras such as snacks, ice creams, and meals out are not included in the package price and are at your own expense.

4. Itinerary: Team members are asked to arrive preferably two days before the camp and leave within two days after the camp finishes. Time before and after the camps will be used for orientation and debriefing.

Wednesday June 22: Arrive in Wroclaw

Thursday 23 June: Optional excursion to Auschwitz or Prague (Price, approx £25 and meals

not included in your package)

Friday 24 June: Training session, camp preparation, meet the Polish staff and team, night out

Saturday 25 June: Camp 1 begins (approx. age range 7-10) and ends Saturday 2 July

Saturday 2 July: Camp 2 begins (approx. age range 10-15) and ends Saturday 9 July

Saturday 9 July: Camp 3 begins (approx. age range 13-18) and ends Saturday 16 July

For Camps 2 and 3, the orientation sessions begin on the Wednesday before the camp starts.

5. Cancellation. In the highly unlikely event that we do not have sufficient numbers of helpers or learners enrolled in the programme we reserve the right to cancel the camps, although we’ve never had to do this is in 16 years of camps :) You will be notified two weeks before the camps are scheduled to begin if this is the case.

6. Responsibilities of the Native English Speakers at Camp Arka

 Take responsibility for the health, safety, well-being and happiness of campers during trips, at the lake, on evening programmes, during English classes and during sports activities.

 Show genuine interest in campers - learn their names, ages, how many times they have been to Camp Arka, their level of English, likes and dislikes, etc.

 Provide opportunities for the group so that each individual experiences success while at camp.

 Encourage respect for personal property, camp equipment and facilities.

 Set a good example for campers in all areas, including cleanliness, punctuality, clean-up

 chores, rules, and sportsmanship.

Follow camp rules and regulations - in particular, smoking, and possessing or consuming alcoholic beverages and/or illegal drugs are forbidden during camp.

Report any illnesses, accidents, or behavioral problems to the Director.

More responsibilities may be assigned as required.

Pre-read all the English lessons outlines and discuss with your partner/group. Prepare all material for lessons.

Tasks:

 Diagnose child’s level of English (conversation before start of the camp – evaluation test) and assign camper to the appropriate group.

Lead English classes twice a day (except the day of arrival and departure).

Help lead craft classes and other workshops (previously prepared and individually discussed with Polish staff).

Help lead sports activities, teach campers new games characteristic for the native speaker’s country (individually assigned).

As part of the team of native speakers organize one evening programme at the camp -

Culture Night.

Participate in first evening programme at the camp – Integration Games.

Optional - join in with groups of children at the lake, join Bible lesson, on other evening programmes.

7. The camps are organized by the Christian Educational Association “Arka”

(+48) 71 787 97 50 ). The camp will be at a nice centre on a lake close to Wroclaw. This centre adheres to current Polish health and safety regulations. In the UK, the programme is advertised

through the Navigators, Turner House, 54 The Avenue, Southampton, SO17 1XQ.

8. Cost. The price of your package as a native English speaker is based on how many one- week camps you have applied for. For one camp the price is £100; for two Camps £ 140, and for three Camps £190. Payment in full should be made in cash upon arrival to Camp Arka..

9. Special requirements: If you have any special requirements including dietary or disability related issues please indicate these clearly at the time of booking.

10. Feedback. At the end of your stay, and as part of the debriefing exercise, you will be given the opportunity to express written and verbal feedback including suggestions and complaints.

Should you have cause for dissatisfaction with any of arrangements made by Camp Arka on your behalf, you should immediately contact your team leader explaining your dissatisfaction and seeking resolution. Complaints can usually be resolved far more quickly and to your satisfaction while still at the camp. If after this you remain dissatisfied, please notify us in writing by email. We will then do our utmost to resolve the matter. Please note that we must be notified within 24 hours if we are to be able to resolve matters quickly and that without a written report there is nothing we can do either immediately or subsequently. Should you continue to remain dissatisfied with our handling of the matter, please write to The Camp Arka

office. We will investigate further and reply fully within 28 days. If this is not possible, we will send you an interim letter advising of our progress.

11. Personal Insurance: It is your responsibility to have valid travel and medical insurance to cover your trip. It is also recommended that you have a valid European Health Insurance Card

(EHIC) with you in case you need medical assistance whilst in Poland. We strongly recommend that your travel insurance includes provision for medical repatriation, trip cancellation and trip disruption (e.g. due to civil unrest or volcanic ash affecting air travel). You are responsible for arranging this, for supplying accurate information as required by the insurer, and communicating details of your insurance arrangements to your team leader. 12. Passport / visa requirements.. British citizens require a valid passport with more than 6 months remaining before expiry. British citizens do not require a visa if your stay in Poland is less than 90 days.
