A Visitor from Outer Space
Evaluating the Bill of Rights, a Consensus Building Activity
Aliens from outer space have conquered the Earth and have taken over.
Though they are in total control, they view themselves as benevolent
rulers and are willing to grant humans some rights. They admire the
rights outlined in the Bill of Rights and have decided to let humans keep
some of them.
Humans may keep four of the following rights, but everyone must agree
on which four. If you fail to agree in the time allotted, you will lose all
of these rights.
You may assume that the meaning of these rights will be interpreted the
same way they currently are under U.S. law.
Right to keep and bear arms.
Right to freedom of speech.
Right to a lawyer.
Right to protection from cruel and unusual punishment.
Right to freedom of press.
Right to a jury trial.
Right to freedom of religion.
Right to peacefully assemble.
Right to privacy.
Protection from self-incrimination.
